Today at the gym I was annoyed to find that somebody left a bunch of weights laying all over the place. I decided to be nice and pick them up, since the people who work at the fitness center are pretty awesome. I picked up a pair of 35 pound dumbbells and struggled to heft them over to the weight rack.

After I dropped them off and went back to my workout, I was shocked to realize that (as of today!) that's how much weight I've lost. I can't believe I used to heft that much weight around on a daily basis and I can barely carry it! Makes me feel pretty proud of how far I've come.

Only 60 pounds left to go!

That's so awesome.  You should be proud.  I've never really thought about weight lose or gain in those terms of comparing the amount to other things, but that's great.  Its such a visual, touchable way to show yourself how great you've done so far.

Keep up the great work.

very cool.  i like to remind myself, especially if it's been a slow couple of weeks, that each pound of fat lost is 4 sticks of butter.  you have lost 140 sticks of butter!  imagine that!

Congrats!!!! Keep up the great work! ^__^

I had the same shock last year at one point. I had two 15lb dumbells which I use and it hit that I had lost 32lbs at that point. When you feel(lift) what amounts to what you lost its a real shocker. Meant more than seeing the scale go down and it motivated me even more! For all those who have lost weight...go pick up some dumbbells that equal what you lost and be amazed.

That's actually a great motivator!

I don't think I've thought of it that way before, but it's a great way to visualize and FEEL the weight. I'm about 40-something pounds away from my goal, and a few weeks ago I had to carry 40 pounds (a big box of cat litter) and almost hurt my back, imagine carrying that thing around all day, every day.

I finally get what my knees and ankles must feel like. No wonder they're often angry at me!

Well done you :)

35lbs is an amazing amount to have lost. Good luck for the future!

Another way to compair what you have lost or found along the way is a block of 1 pound butter.  check it out the next time you go to the grocery store.  and magine putting 35 of them in a pile.. now that is realization as well.

good luck and keep up the wonderful work.  I know it is hard.

Wow, that is so totally cool.  Great job, girl!

You are inspirational!

Thanks for the inspiration and analogy! I do the same analogy except with those 5 gallon water jugs. (The ones on the "water cooler"). You know how bulky and awkward they are to get on the cooler. That's (only) 40 pounds. Can you image the difference that would make for ANYBODY when going on a hike etc. (Whether added or lost would make a huge difference) Best wishes on your journey.

When I start feeling discouraged about how slooooooow the weight is coming off, I go to the grocery store and find the butter. I pick up however many lbs I've lost worth of butter and physically FEEL how much weight I've lost. It cheers me up everytime!!

As of today I have lost 29 pounds (since May 14th when I joined calorie counter.com); my 18 month old grandson weighs 28 pounds so I have lost a grandson :O) and only have a Supermodel (67 lbs) to go!!!!!!

I love making connections like that - I can't believe how much weight I used to carry around either. I remember packing a heavy suitcase for a trip and then seeing how much it weighed on the scale at the airport... it's pretty amazing because I think it weighed around 35 pounds, about half of  what I've lost so far and it felt like so much! And I used to carry double that all the time!  ...scary.

I like judging my weight loss with 5 lb sacks of potatoes.

It really is amazing to lift that bulky weight.

Awesome realization, chica! Thanks so much for sharing!!

Nice!! I had a moment like this recently also when I lifted a 50 lb bag of rice for my mom. I was like shouting this is how much weight I lost!! I was so proud.
