Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k need some advice, what am I doing wrong?
I started this on Feb. 14, and I thought I was doing pretty good at keeping to the goals I'd set. I had to cut out my daily Dr. Pepper, and we had to deal with a huge prime rib that we got for Christmas. That was hard to figure out how to eat it and keep it below the limits, but I did pretty good. I think my foods are pretty good, although I need to reduce the fat levels a bit because of the prime rib week. But I haven't even lost 1 lb, and I'm getting discouraged. Can some of you folks look at my stuff and see what I'm doing wrong and make some suggestions? Increasing activity is out right now for health reasons, and I just have to manage by diet. My liver specialist wants me to lose 70 lbs this year so they can evaluate me again for treatment for Hepatitis C and it's really important that I do this. Thanks for your comments.

Congrats for starting the process. I would watch the portion size. Not just because we are supposed to but because you are more likely to overeat with large portions. Remember to stop eating when you are no longer hungry. If you do this be prepared to eat more often (it's good for you). Eating small meals often will increase your metabolism. I would ask your Dr. how much excercise is too much. Just a 30 minute walk will help. Oh, Diet Dr. Pepper is really good - I'm having one right now. Good Luck.
Thanks for the reply. I try to figure out in advance how many calories I can have at a meal and figure out the portion size by that. Should I be doing it differently? I don't get hungry between meals, but sometimes at night and have to watch that, though.
I have no idea what you are doing, therefore I cannot give my 2 cents on whether I think its right or wrong.
I"m trying to keep at 1250 calories a day according to the tools here. I'm 5/1 and 230 lbs. A lot of this weight was put on through medication and steroids, and is just about impossible to get off. I eat healthy foods and plan my calories each day in advance so I know what I can eat at each meal. It seems to be working for me, and I've been about the same calories each day and not getting hungry between meals. I eat the same breakfast each day, mini-wheats and 1/2 cup milk because that type of fiber works for my health issues. Lunch is usually cottage cheese and pineapple, or a sandwich made with healthy stuff. Dinner is usually lean meat or fish. We have a farm and grow a lot of our own stuff, and overall it's pretty healthy according to the tools here. I cut out my daily Dr. Pepper, and am trying to drink more water, and that's about it for my efforts so far. I just can't figure out why I'm not losing weight if I'm staying at these calories. Oh yea, the proportion of fat/protein/carbs isn't too bad, but could go down on the fat a bit because of the prime rib roast we had this week. What else can I do? The tools on this site say I burn 2000 calories a day and I'm only taking in 12-1300. So I thought I SHOULD be losing something!
Are you eating enough fruit? If the fruit is canned with syrup forget it. Don't eat that stuff. I did plateau at 1400 callories even with excersise after I had lost 15lbs. I didn't have time to figure it out because I found out I was gluten intollerant. Once I cut out the gluten I lost 25lbs within a few months (and without exercise). That piece of toast, sandwich, crutons...were messing with my digestive system. Everything I was eating was healthy - but only for people without gluten sensitivity. Have you been checked for any allergies? Milk is another big one that people are allergic to.
No, i haven't checked for allergies because I didn't think I had any. How did you know to check? Were you having problems?
I've been a sleepwalker my entire life (I'm 30), once I became an adult I had a larger midsection (thought that was just my build), was always sluggish (thought that was because of the sleepwalking) and would suffer from the worst hangovers know to man - I'm a beer drinker (or was anyway). All this sounds normal and most people wouldn't have thought twice about this stuff. Well, my mom had a lot of tests done and found she was gluten intollerant. It is hereditary (sp?) so I got tested and found out I had it even worse than my mother. I never would have known.
