Need advice....Has this happened to you?
I was away on a business trip last week and my first day of travel I didnt eat anything all day. I had dinner about 8:30-9:00; I ate like I had never seen food before in my life
. I had steak, shrimp, salads, veggies but I skipped dessert. (Yeah for me.... deal, right?) We sat around by the pool until about midnight. I finally got to bed after checking my emails and fell asleep around 1:00. BAAHM at about 2:30am I was awakened by an intense pain under my ribcage radiating around the right side to my upper back. I could hardly breath, and no matter how I layed, walked or sat nothing relieved the pain. I really wanted to go to the ER but get this...I was staying at the owner of my company's home. ( I really didnt feel like I could knock on his door to tell him that my "belly ached")yikes.. So I endured the pain unitl about 5:30am when I finally fell asleep (or passed out) When I got up two hours later the pain was still there but dull. My side had a dull ached all day and I could not eat anything. I took some antiacids, Prilosec, Pepto, and drank lots of 7up. Finally by the evening I was feeling a little better and the next day I was fine. Has anyone experienced something like this and if so, what the heck is it?
Hi there, I have never personally had this happen, but I do know that your liver/gallbladder is on the right side underneath the ribcage. If the pain occurred on the right side after a big, fatty meal, then it could possibly be gallbladder inflammation or gallstones. Best to get it checked out as soon as possible by a doctor, especially if the pain was that bad. You don't want to have to go through that again!
Yup. I've definitely had that happen to me before after going an entire day without eating and then suddenly loading up on a huge meal. Especially if your body is used to eating smaller meals, and eating regularly. But that was my explanation for it, anyway. It could've been worse.
As molligrub suggested, you should check with your doc.
Thank you so much for the advice....I am going to email my doctor and get a referral to a gastro doc. I certainly dont want it to happen again! I'll keep you updated!
