Need advice....??? Hello!
I just need help figuring out my activity level. I work in an office and sit at my desk on the computer the majority of the day. But my office has a gym and I work out 5 days a week. I use the Elliptical twice daily for a total of @ 400 calories burned and I also burn @ 100 calories on the treadmill each day. So I'm burning @ 500 calories a day. (I am eating 1500-1700 calories daily).
I also have a part time job in retail @ 20 hours per week and I'm up walking around at that job. I'm usually home @ 2-3 nights a week and I'm generally relaxing during that time.
So...sedentary or light activity?
Sedentary
- At work - you work in an office
- At home - you're usually sitting, reading, typing or working at a computer
- Exercise - you don't exercise regularly
Light activity
- At work - you walk a lot
- At home - you keep yourself busy and move a lot
- Exercise - you participate in light exercise or take long walks
neither...i'd say moderately active. you do at least 30-45 minutes of structured exercise 3-5x a week and your job isn't sedentary so you would be moderately active according to my understanding :)
Well, my main job is sedentary I'm chained to a desk 95% of my work day. It's a Monday-Friday 8-5 job in which I have 2 30 minute breaks and an hour long lunch every day. I use my breaks to excercise.
Still think moderate?
with your calorie burn i would still say yes, especially since i'm sure it would equal roughly the same amount if you did it all at once as opposed to breaking it up. you're obviously not sedentary, and light active is usually almost no structured workouts and just activity from life, if you weren't bed ridden, so yes moderate would be about right. maybe you could take 90% of the calorie recommendation instead of meeting the entire goal, if that makes you feel more comfortable. :)
Thanks Chrissy! I understand now!
Yeah, you are most certainly moderately active.
This activity level thing confuses me, too. So given the info that sngbrdchls77 posted, if she changed the activity level to moderate, would she also log her workouts as activity log? I am in a similar situation, and I have mine set as sedentary and then I just log all the exercise separately. Same thing as setting it to moderate, or not?
If you're active you burn energy for the duration but you also burn more the rest of the day. So sedentary + activity doesn't quite cover it. If the definition of 'moderate' sounds like a good average go with that and don't log exercises separately. If you do substantially more exercise than normal at any stage add the extra activity on separately.
I took it as what GI said in that I have myself down as light activity and then I log my excercise. That way, my calorie intake doesn't skyrocket. According to this site I should be eating @ 2000 calories if I choose moderate activity. I like having the lower calorie intake and adding on for the excercise I do.
hi:)
i would say either light activity or moderatly
because you are actually exercising and you do burn some calories, so yeah:)
