LOCKED TOPIC
I need some advice and kind words..
On the 11th, I was 107.9 pounds. On the 12th, I was 108.7 pounds. And literally it just switched back between those two numbers, and I am so confused.
So this morning, especially, when I weighed myself and saw almost 109 pounds I started crying, like REALLY bad. Now I made up my mind I'm not going to eat until my weight goes down to 105 [when I fast the weight usually stays, from past experiences].
Could some one please tell me how this could be, or try to make me feel better...? I really just feel absolutely terrible right now.
Reason: Locked. Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.
Is 4lbs in weight really going to make one iota of difference to your health? Wellbeing? Appearance?... It's very easy to get irrationally hung up on one particular 'ideal weight' especially when you're 16. But if not being that weight is leading to extreme reactions like sobbing your heart out and feeling 'absolutely terrible' then I think you need to talk to someone quite urgently and work out what's really going on.
When very, very slim people (and at 5'3", 109lbs is very, very slim) are as depressed as you sound it's not usually their body-weight that's at fault. But body-weight is an easy scapegoat to pick on rather than tackling the true cause of your unhappiness. .
Either way, fasting isn't going to do you any good. I know from your other threads that you've obviously got some kind of eating disorder (chew/spit) already and that you've been routinely starving yourself on 400 cals a day. You may well end up thinner but malnutrition will leave you even more anxious and depressed... and guaranteed to be sick into the bargain. SEE A DOCTOR.... Those are the kindest words I can leave with you.

Well, first of all, when I was in weight watchers (went from 194 to 165) they told me to only weigh myself once a week.
Now, I weigh myself twice a week. Only on Fridays and Mondays. Never in between. So if I have a let down, it's just once or twice a week.
Also, you should do it first thing in the morning.
Also, I have heard, that if you lose a lot of pounds fast, that it can lead to weight gain. I'm not a doctor, there is my two cents.
Also, your body can fluctuate in weight on an hourly basis just off what you have had to eat or drink, but eventually it will come back off (because you use the bathroom). Starving can also lead to more muscle loss than fat loss - which in turn will only make you look less fit! No matter how badly you want to lose weight never starve yourself to lose weight, you're just creating more of a problem!
I think if 1-2 pounds is a lot to you (enough to make you cry from going from 108.7 to 109 pounds), you need to see a doctor! Honestly, no one notices (they simply cannot) that you've gained or lost 0.3 pounds because it is such a small number compared to your body weight. It would be like noticing someone grew 5 new hairs in their head- it's just not possible. You didn't even notice yourself until you stepped on the scale!
If you're THAT concerned about a fraction of a pound, you need to see a doctor IMMEDIATELY. You're going to end up hurting your body for something no one can even see! You need help. Please, please, please see a doctor and explain to them what you're going through! Do not starve yourself, you're not helping yourself, your health, your body, or even your weight!
I second what the other two posters have said. The fact that you are getting THIS upset over one pound means that you need to see a doctor immediately. This is disordered thinking.
Do not fast. Eat. Then go see a doctor and tell him/her what you just told us.
Actually, astronaut, you've had some great people posting to you on this thread and your other threads. They have told you what you need to be doing.
Calorie Count cannot and will not support fasting for weight loss purposes.

Yeah, I have heard fasting was bad for you.
My mom did it, but for religous reasons., not to lose weight.
She could never fast more than a couple of days.
I did it once, fast that is.
I was able to fast a week because I didn't stop eating, I just narrowed my food choices to four things:
Burgers, Bacon, ice cream and beer. Fast like the way I do, and you can last more than a week!
(of course that type of fasting is what got me here to begin with)
If you're 16, fasting is a good way to start yourself down a dangerous road, and it can also really screw with your blood sugar something fierce. Do you want to start doing irrevocable damage to your metabolism now? Picture yourself at 40 with 15 vanity pounds you want to lose. You won't because your body will play a game of chicken with you.
Ordinarily when I read the "YOU MUST TALK TO SOMEONE" responses, I agree about 50% of the time. It's not always an eating disorder. But there is something disordered about frequent, purposeful restrictive eating, and there's something disordered about being so sad about this kind of weight fluctuation (which, with your age, could be a bunch of things, including hormones, stress, your body reacting to not eating enough, etc.). Why do I say it? Because I was there. I remember being 16 and having the same fears. I remember being 14 and having the same fears.
I have to echo the "weigh yourself once a week" sentiment. PLEASE, if you're doing it more, you're filling a void with the weight issue. Maybe it would be a good idea to talk to someone because all of the things that are going on right now (and life is always complicated so I'm not talking down to you because I'm older, no way) shouldn't find their focus on weight or it will plague you.
Just remember... if you haven't eaten an extra 3,500 calories, you haven't gained fat. Drink plenty of fluids, but please eat normally.
OH, and I'm editing to add: fasting is a quick way to delve into bingeing, because that's how you'll respond eventually. And that is a whole different misery.
I enjoyed your post, you're a Knowledgeable woman.
I have to say, when I first started weight watchers, they wanted me to go to these meetings. I never attended one of those meetings, I just used the online tools. Went from 194 to 165 pounds just with those tools.
I asked, why do I have to go to those meetings, they told me that eating is tied to my emotions. I told them; no its not, it's tied to me being hungry and liking food.
The last thing I would want to do, is to detour someone from getting the help they need. For me, the meetings..... well, not for me. However, with my best friend's mother, I think she could use those meetings.
I am not a diet expert, I just know what works for me.
You look pretty thin, I wanted to put that in a sentence but didn't know how.
And to astronaut : do something now, I hope you don't spend your young years worried about your weight. I think everyone so far agrees with you talking to someone. An expert.
My best friend's mother was obese and hated it her whole entire life... she also wasn't willing to get help either.
Try checking your salt intake. Also make sure that you're drinking enough water. Dehydration can contibute to weight gain and depression. Rule of thumb - take your body weight and divide by 2.
In your case, 109/2 = 55 <-- that is how many ounces of water you should be drinking a day. Not diet soda, tea, juice, or anything else. Just plain old H2O. See if a couple of weeks of that doesn't get you back on track.
You appear to have some sort of eating or body image disorder. Anyone who thinks they are fat at your weight needs serious, professional help. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but there is nothing for you here, except maybe the Weight Gain forum. You don't need to lose weight, in fact you could stand to gain 10 pounds.
You are making the mistake so many young girls make - you are trying to be the size you were as a child and you are not taking into account that you are growing and are supposed to get bigger.
Please don't starve yourself.

Back on track to do what? Kill herself with starvation? This is a child you are talking to.
Ok, well this happens to me all the time (weight fluxuations)! And I just assumed it was normal! lol.
I've definitely heard to only weigh yourself once a week...and do it around the same time.
I started a new fitness program, so I was weighing myself everyday out of curiousity. I found that from Monday to Friday I gained a total of 2 lbs, but then on Saturday I found that I actually lost 1.5 lbs from my original weight!
I think it's all about what you eat/drink that day (or the day before). You know, some people just retain water sometimes! It could be all water weight! that's what I always tell myself ;o)
Oh! and if you are working out, maybe you are gaining muscle...
