Need some advice on weightlifting form
Hello :) 3 weeks ago I started ChaLEAN Extreme which is all about lifting heavy so that you fail at rep 10, 11, or 12 (at least for the 1st phase I am in). Right now I am using weights that range from 8 lbs to 21 lbs (I am female, 26yo, 130lbs). One of my biggest problems is that for some exercises, I could use a higher weight for the exercise being done (ex. rowing movement), but my hands/forearms get SO painfully tired that it is all I can do to squeak out 10 reps. The frustrating part is that I concentrate so much on how much my forearms hurt, that I don't concentrate on the muscles I am supposed to be working.
Any suggestions?? (I already have gloves to help me grip better) THANKS in advance!
Well, you could work out your forearms specifically, doing wrist curls and such. You can just keep working what you're doing, and let your forearms catch up.
Or you can get wrist straps (aka weightlifting straps). Those can help with your problem a lot actually, and you can find them at pretty much any sports store.
the great things about forearms is that they adapt extremely fast, but you do have two choices. you can start working your forearms by thereselves, twice a week after your other workouts. the second option is that you can keep pulling through doing the heaviest weight possible that your forearms will allow you and they'll catch up with the rest of you.
I just started this program too about 3 weeks ago! Burn circuit #2 KILLS my forearms about half way through. Here is how I've adapted... I bought some weight lifting gloves that keep my palms from slipping on the weights. This helps me not to grip the weights as tightly and Waaalaa..... the forearms don't tire as quickly. They still get tired, but allow me to use the heavier weights. Hope that helps you out!
