If she is your friend you will stop her from doing this. Her body will shut down and she will end up in hospital. Why don't you show her this site and all of the good that she can learn here.
are you sure it's a "friend" because you seem really interested in knowing how much she will lose. You should be interested in knowing how to stop her.
trust me i would never go do that to my body, it scares me that she will loose so much at once, gain it back and do it forveer til she dies, i can't physically stop her i just need reassurance so if i know the FACTS i can go to her parents, as mean as it sounds, she will thank me in the end
i can't stop her from doing anything, but i can go to her parents, if i go to her parents and say shes doing this, and will loose this much and end up this light by this time it WILL scare THEM into action, doctor..ext... but i need FACTS so i don't look like i'm talking out my as.... you know?
She'll probably collapse at some point during that week.
You should go to her parents now.
You should go to her parents now.
yeah i know, they don't seem to be taking it to seriously, i tried speaking to them... and its stupid because unless your "90 pounds and sick and almost dead" the waiting list for an eating disorder around here is rediculous.. my bfs sister works at the home wood... i just need facts so i can say look... this is life and death.. call ur doc
hang on lisa ~ i'll get you some links :)
god bless you.. you have no idea.. i'm so new to this, and so scared for her
lisa ~ do you think she is intentionally starving herself or do you think she just doesn't understand proper nutrition and why it is very important to eat at least 1,200 cals a day or so for the body to have enough to function (like the heart, lungs, muscles, etc???)
i ask, because there is a difference. Is she compulsive to lose weight, sees herself as way to fat... hates herself... (see article for signs & symptoms) or is it that she just thinks that losing the next 20 lbs very fast would be gr8 and thinks she should only eat 200 cals a day and exercise hard?
also, here's a good article on anorexia ~ what it is, symptoms, treatment and all sorts of stuff...

a little history & symptoms...
Symptoms of anorexia range from extreme weight loss for no discernable medical reason; ritualistic food habits, such as excessive chewing; denying hunger and exercising excessively to choosing low calorie food and hiding feelings.
A person with anorexia may be excessively thin but still see themselves as overweight. The average age for onset of the illness is thought to be 16, although the age range of anorexia is between 10 and 40. Around 90% of cases are female. Most have no history of being overweight.

something that is very important and major concern is super unhealthy eating and diet practices... where the person doesn't really know any better but they are following fad diets and stuff trying to lose the weight.
then, they can become obsessessed and this can lead to eating disorders...
here's an article that explains it ~ in another post here on cc

http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/6584 .html#5I'll wait until I hear more from you before posting more info... it depends on what you think... what kind of info you need, k?
Lisa ~ I was thinking about what you said about the parents... and very often attitudes about food come from all sorts of sources, like the media, friends, and the family... and can get all twisted together and on a bad day, it all gets twisted up and people are getting very sick with these serious eating disorders.
The thing is this. None of us here are professionals and aren't really qualified to diagnose anyone or help you even to determine if she has an eating disorder or has quacky fad type ideas about dieting.
I know I had crazy ideas and mumsie and i went on every fad diet we ever heard about... the cabbage soup diet, the ski team diet, the orange diet (7 oranges in a day)... you name it... we tried it.
I didn't start to really understand that diets don't work until I startved visiting here and trying to figure out how to make things work...
so.. here's the deal... if her parents aren't listening... and if your friend is not listening...
then I would suggest that you talk to your counselor at school to get someone involved who can help and intervene if necessary. Or encourage your friend to go to a counselor... or something.
You don't need to be silent about this but it's not unusual for people to brush off friends or their kids friends. If you need to, go to your parents...
It's more important to save her life... and get her the help started if she needs it... tell her or not... but if you do, tell her that you love her as a friend and can't stand to see her hurt herself.... and then what you are doing... or recommend she come chat here... and read the boards about how to eat appropriately...
Hope this helps :)

Hi there, I put a lot of information together on Anorexia in this thread:
http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/9165 .html
http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/9165 .html
she might lose 8 pounds and will most likely pass out in the shower. I did a 300 calorie diet and ended up passed out half way between the shower and my room. She really wont get too far. Tell her it's really not smart, and not healthy at all. She will lose water weight, and it will come right back after she is done. Lots of headaches, shakes, and dizzyness. A week aint nothin. Trust me. She'll black out tho.
Whatever she loses in weight is pointless, because all she would do in a diet like that is get her body fat percentage higher. So, in a way, she would get fatter, not thinner.
lisababe, your friend is in real danger. She cannot sustain health on 200 calories a day. She will be severely malnourished -- you just can't get good nutrition on 200 calories a day.
you may have to demonstrate some tough love if the friend is a teenager. you must go to her parents and tell them what she is doing. If they will not take it seriously and get her some help, then you must go to Family Services and report it, so a social worker can intervene and get her into a program.
you may lose her friendship, but you will be the best friend she ever could hope to have. that's the price of tough love, sometimes.

even more important...
calorie levels that low do not contain the proper sodium levels for the heart and kidneys to function.
within as little as 2-3 days she could have a heart attack from and electrolyte imbalance.
ive done fasting for detox and you are only suppose to do those only for 48 hours at home otherwise a doctor has to watch you for complications. the juice fasts contain a MINIMUM of 700. and usually are 1200 or more. thats way higher than 200.
you should tell her parents just this:
her calorie intake is low enough to kill her within days.
a body needs certain minerals and salts to function.
army guys can die in the heat from that even with a healthy diet because of all the hard work and sweating.
but she isnt even putting those salts and minerals in..so she doesnt have to march and sweat or be underweight to have a lethal complication. because what sustains her is not even being taken in. that will result in a heart attack or other major organ failure. and even with treatment organ failure sometimes can not be helped. its very important to get help a.s.a.p. for her.
also if she eats a lot after doing that..that can kill her as well.
its something that kills p.o.w.s and e.d.ed persons. the carb load makes the body dump out the things that keep it running
(re-feeding syndrome)
good luck in helping your friend!

"The age range is 10 to 40"
I've heard that the age range for anorexics doesn't go past 40 because most of them don't live that long. :-(

ok...2 - 3 days? no. not true. i laugh at that. the human body can go about a month without food or at least with little food, but you'd be malnurished at the end of that. i used to fast, i would go a week or two without food. it wasn't a weight loss/anorexic thing, its because i used to be really paranoid about the second coming of a great depression (history repeats, you know., and that scared me). of course i no longer worry about this *not crazy, lol* but just letting you know, the human body is very adaptable, but for weight loss 200 calories a day is just unexceptable.
if you want to help her, here might be a good way to do it: obviously she is concernced about her appearance, seeing as she's willing to do this to her body just to lose weight. let her know that should she go on this extreme diet of hers, she will look absolutely horrible. and im not just saying that. after depriving your body of food/nutrition for that long, your face gets a certain "tired and beat up" look to it. not only that but everything about you get worse; hair, teeth, etc because your body isnt getting what it needs to support these parts of your body, so its cutting off giving needed vitamins/etc to whats not absolutely necessary for life. let her know those facts, and maybe it will let her see that there are other ways to lose weight that wont shockrock her appearance

well it is a fasting state and your body can have issues within 48 hours. just because you did not doesnt mean another wont.
you dont die from lack of food. you die from health complication because of internal imbalance or an already diseased state.
you shouldnt laugh
you are being ignorant.

Precautions
Fasting isn't appropriate for everyone and, in some cases, could be harmful. Any person undertaking a first fast longer than three days should seek medical supervision. Those with health conditions should always have medical support during fasting. Plenty of water should be taken by fasters since dehydration can occur. Saunas and sweating therapies are sometimes recommended to assist detoxification, but should be used sparingly. Those fasting should significantly slow down their lifestyles. Taking time off of work is helpful, or at least reducing the work load. Fasters should also get plenty of rest. Exercise should be kept light, such as walking and gentle stretching."
