Need Apple Crisp Recipe
I have been looking for days and can't seem to find something healthier.
I want to use whole apples, cut up, maybe some applesauce mixed it, I dont care.
Something with a nice cruchy top, not nessisarily a buttery crunch. Whole oats, or something else that would work I could buy?
I also have regular white baking splenda and the brown sugar splenda. Baked in the oven in 9x13 - if different size I can rescale it.
A medium apple is about 75 calories so if a good serving could be around 150 cal ?
Maybe a way to add more fiber also? Or a caramel protein powder? (Does that sound horrible? lol I don't know!)
Please help :) I'll love you forever!
Yes thanks, I was browsing through them earlier. There are hundreds on this site, so I was hoping someone had one that they actually use.
It doesn't have to be complicated.
Peel (or not) and dice some apples and spread them in a baking dish that has been sprayed with non stick spray. Season with cinnamon and a little nutmeg. Sprinkle the top with oatmeal (this can be old fashioned rolled oats, or quick oats) in a thin layer so it will crisp up. Spray the top with the non stick spray, buttery flavor if you have it. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Bake for about 20 to 30 minutes, until the apples are soft and bubbly and the top is lightly browned.
If you feel that you must sweeten either the apples and/or the oats, just toss them with the sweetener of your choice.
This is my standard apple crisp recipe.
You should be able to cut down the sugar to lower the calories. I've tried cutting back on the butter but I find it gets too dry. One trick I sometimes use is to use a deep dish pan (e.g. a bread pan) so there's more apples and less "crisp" per serving (cut down on the crisp or throw out the extra):
6-8 apples, peeled, sliced
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbs butter (my sister makes it with 1/4 c!)
crumble together topping ingredients, spread over apples and backe at 350 (usually about 30 min but it depends on the type of apples you use). You can sprinkle cinnamon on the apples if you like that too.
