I have a Hamilton Beach blender - not sure of the exact model, but it's great. I definitely prefer the glass jar type, as the ones with plastic jars always seem to crack.

If the only thing you're going to make in it is smoothies, I might get (and I can't believe I'm suggesting an infomercial product) a Magic Bullet. My boyfriend bought one, and it's actually pretty useful for things like smoothies and salsa. I don't think I'd have bought it instead of a blender, since you can't make large quantities of anything, but I never make smoothies in my blender anymore. The bullet comes with several mugs that you can make your smoothies in directly, and they're dishwasher safe. I'm kind of a small kitchen appliance addict, but I have to say I'm glad I have both, and both get used fairly often.
