Need easy snack about 200 calories
Here is the situation. I work fulltime in an office. I am looking for a 200 calorie healthy, easy accesible snack, that will somewhat make me feel full, between lunch and dinner. I find myself to be very hungry around 2PM, since I am at work, it needs to be convenient. I tried apples, peanut butter, oatmeal, fiber 1 bars, almonds, but nothing seems to work. I eat about a 400 calorie lunch, which is right amount for my weight loss.
Any suggestions?
have you ever paired any of these? like banana+pb, apple+pb,
or oatmeal +pb+.5 banana
I dont like to eat almonds because they dont do anything to suppress my appetite!
Could you take some popcorn? It takes longer to eat, so you could sit there an constantly grab some, ya know?
We have a fridge at work, so I usually bring fat free cottage cheese, 1 serving (1/2 cup i think) 80 calories along with 1 medium size banana 100 cal. It's very filling for me. At times, I have also brought a bag of the 100 calorie popcorn.
1 pound baby carrots is less than 200.
I second the cottage cheese and the fruit with peanut butter. It sounds like maybe a snack bar doesn't fill you up but give one of the Luna bars a try. They work great for me. Very satisfying.
Well, it's not 200 calories although i'm sure you could adjust it some...I recently tried Wasa crackers with a wedge of Laughing Cow Lite Cheese. I use 2 crackers and 1 wedge of cheese and it's about 100 calories. I find that the mix of fiber in the crackers and the protein in the cheese keeps me pretty full. You could play around with it and add fruit to this or even some sliced turkey, etc.
I keep a punnet of cherry tomatoes on my desk and just eat a few when i get peckish. The cals will be on the packaging but for the weight that I got the last time, it was less than 100 cals. Because of this, you can snack on them during the whole day.
Strawberries are also good but you need to be aware of the sugar they contain.
I swear by Kashi trail mix bars, which are 140 calories with whole almonds, cranberries, raisins etc. You could spread a teaspoon or two of peanut butter on top to meet that 200 calorie goal.
A pot of yogurt and some fruit.
A fiber one bar and some fruit.
2 or 3 pieces of fruit.
Fruit and FF cottage cheese.
hummus and veggies, whatever kind you like<great and way less than 200 cal>
All of those are great ideas. I have the same issue, I get hungry mid afternoon and need something to tide me over. Anything sweet (including fruit) just makes me hungrier so I tend to lean towards salty in the afternoon. Yesterday afternoon I tried this and it was perfect:
1 whole-wheat wrap (80 calories) (Cedar's brand),
spread with 1/4 cup hommus (100 calories) (Joseph's brand),
and top the hommus with about 1/2 cup shredded carrots (18 calories)
Wrap it up and snack on creamy crunchy good for you ~ 200 calories. Depending on brand names you purchase, calorie count may differ.
I have two words for you =)
LUNA BARS!
Those will seriously fill you up, and they're only 180 calories. They are filled with protein and fiber. Just make sure it's not too hot, or they melt a lot!
2 bananas would do the trick (2oo calories)
Nutrigrain bars are yummy too (140 calories) add a nectarine or peach to get around 200 cals...
Try mixing your own trail mix. Get dried fruit, nuts, and any other little thing that you want to add, and then go to town!! You can pre measure your servings, stuff them in little baggies and keep some at your desk.
This will give you something to munch that will last longer than the 1-3 minuets it takes to eat a bar.
Warm tea will also help you feel full, if you sip it.
i do the same as mom6, and because youve already measured it its hard to cheat!
other suggestions - 2 weetabix and a fat free yoghurt - 200 cals
cupasoup - 85ish but be wary of salt contents on some
2 sliced whole Peppers (70 cal) and a whole 200g tub of salsa (120)
1 Appple, 10 Almonds; or
1 Orange and 20 grams of high quality dark chocolate; or
4 Brazil Nuts and a half dozen prunes or apricots
Some cashews or other nut and a banana (verify portion sizes)
OK, so I like the fruit and nut combos, but toss in the chocolate and fruit combo.
A low fat yogurt cup (Fage 0% yum! or maybe low fat laban) and piece of fruit.
A cup of cherries and one of those nut or chocolate or yogurt things mentioned above.
1 5oz fage 0 yogurt with 1 cup of frozen mixed berries and 2 tbsp ground flax seed. about 200 calories and I'd be in shock if you were hungry after eating it!
It's not exactly a snack food but I take an extra ham sandwhich on light bread, no cheese. It's about 150 cals w/ mustard and keeps me full longer than snacks for some reason. Also, a mid day cup of coffee goes a long way for me.
There are 2 brands that I swear by.
The first is fiber one. They have their granola bars which are 140 calories and they come in a variety of flavors. For breakfast almost everyday I have a fiberone bar and an apple, under 200 calories, filling and delicious.
I also love Kashi. They have granola bars and stuff but I have never eaten them. I eat a Dannon Light 'N' Fit Yogurt (60 calories and tasty!) and 1/2 a cup of Kashi's Honey Almond Flax (1oo Calories). That still leaves you with a 40 Calorie deficit of 200 calories, so you could have a tablespoon of mini M&Ms (40 calories) or some sort of veggie.
