I Need Exercise help!

Quote  |  Reply
I just started the calorie-count program after gaining back all the weight I lost with weight watchers (I had surgery and had to take medicine that made me gain weight). Any-who, I have some knee problems and really bad asthma so I would greatly appreciate some exercise tips that would be easy on me.

Happy weight loss!

i hurt my knee through running too much. the elliptical, however, is AMAZING, my knee doesnt hurt at all. also, try pilates and swimming, and other low impact exercises.
I agree with elliptical.  I tore my ACL and had surgery in Jan '05.  After a couple months of therapy during which I worked out on an elliptical, I fell in love with the thing.  I 'ellipticized' for about 8 months before transitioning to the treadmill because my knee felt better.  I still use the elliptical when my knee gets tight, or I'll just take a day off.

So, if you have an elliptical or stationary bike, they will be a good start.  Also, just walking a mile or two every day is good if you don't have access to these machines, or walking uphill on a treadmill.  My personal favorite answer is always weightlifting, because you can control your body a lot better.

Go into pools, and just walk around in it or something. Take it easy, but still be in the water moving around.

I'm not sure if this is true because frankly I hear a lot of talk nowadays, but I heard the eliptical does burn calories very effectively, but does not increase your fitness level. I'm not sure if I believe this or not because like I said I hear A LOT of this little bits of information.
Hello, my honest opinion would either be the elliptical or the best workout in the world is a pool. Aqua therapy is the best way to get a great workout and strengthen the muscles and ligiments around the knee which could really help you. Just take a few laps around the pool and work your way up to trying to run in the pool, its an excellent way to workout. Also staring a toning weight lifting program would be wonderful for anyone. Just keep the wieghts low and the reps high. and with your leg workout do leg curls and leg extensions they really could help you knees out.
