In Need Of A Few Friends For Support
Hi All,
I'm new here. I am 54yrs. old and celebrating my birthday this coming Tuesday October 21. I Know that I'm going downhill very fast if I don't take control of my weight.
I've always been a big girl even as a toddler, and the only one in my family. When I was younger, it was easy for me to lose weight, which I did often but always gained it back.
Now, I seem to be stuck. I eat healthy, lots of fruit, veggies, complex carbs and fish/seafood. No processed food or junk food in my home, but yet the weight just sticks to me like glue.
Walking and dancing used to be my favorite form of exercise but now, I have osteoarthritis in my hip and lower back which makes it difficult for me to exercise. I started water aerobics last month and having a lot of fun so, I guess for the time being that will be my only form of exercise.
I would really like to have a few friends to chat with, and support each other. So, If there's any over 50 ladies out there that would like to be my weight loss friend, please let me know.
Thank you.
Seasun
Seasun, I also have osteoarthritis. I am 53 and since July I have lst 18 lbs, and approx 15 inches. I am a member of a fitness club that I go to with my brother and sister-in-law. We support and encourage each other and that is how I have been able to stay the course. When I first started at the gym, I could only do 30 seconds on the eliptical trainer and was lucky to last 5 min on the treadmill. I just kept trying and now I can do 10 minutes on the elliptical and 45 minutes on the treadmill at 3.5 at a 4 incline. I just do things and if it really hurts, I know to go slow or try something else. Water aerobics is great exercise for people with arthritis. Just keep trying. If you are uncomfortable standing lifting light weights, sit. While sitting, do leg exercises. I even do them in the bed, by raising both legs in the air, one at a time, and scissor kicks. Just listen to your body and find a way to work it out. Keep going and you wil feel so much stronger. Best of luck to you.
epinurse52, thanks for replying to my post, and thanks for the encouragement.
When I go to the Y, I always feel a tinge of envy when I see all the people working out in the GYM but by the time I get t pool and realize that I can do over 120 minutes serious workout, I feel better.
Your personal experience is very encouraging, and I think I may give the gym a try.
Hi Seasun21,
I have been a member for over 4 months. I hope you will enjoy being a member as much as I have. It really helps to have others who know what your going through. I really count on the support from my cc friends. When you start your journal, others can comment on your entries. This is where you get a lot of support. And you can comment on other cc members journals.
Good luck on your new journey of eating Healthy and losing weight. Mnic
I'm only 18 and have only recently joined myself... but I would still love to be a good support for you! My grandmother has fibromialiga and arthritis and she does pool exercises about twice a week... she really enjoys it and it looks like a lot of fun nonetheless. I try to encourage her to go to it on those days she "just doesn't feel like it", and she usually thanks me when she gets back. Not only is she exercising, she's also having some good bonding time with her friends. She usually thanks me when I encourage her to get out and do it. I hope this group helps encourage you to reach your goals :D
