I need food ideas for gaining weight.

I just found this site and typed my info into the BMI calculator. I am underweight and would like to be at my target weight.

Does anyone have any food ideas or other helpful information?

Please give us your stats...age, height, activity, etc.
Try higher fat foods, as they pack more calories into less bulk.  My favorites are nuts/seeds (especially in trail mix form), avocados, and peanut butter.
I am 32 years old.  I am about 5'7" and 100 lbs.  I do not regularly exercise but I do have children and am very active in keeping up with them.

What kinds of foods do you eat or like?

I usually eat burgers, onion rings, steak, loaded mashed potatoes, etc.  I love fruits and some veggies.

OK.   Looks like the plan is to take in many more calories.  I am the type of person that only eats when hungry or when my body tells me it is time to eat.  I do not eat just because it is time for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  If I am busy, food has to wait.  I don't usually eat just because I like food (unless it is something that I really love...and then I might eat alot).      &nb sp;

So, taking in more calories is going to be a real challenge for me!

Also, I do plan to start some type of regular exercise program.  However, my fear is that I will begin to lose what little bit of weight I do have!

well your approach to food sounds good, you should only eat when hungry...but adding exercise is a good idea and then as other people have suggested try eating foods which contain good fat, nuts are great, just do it healthily and your bound to gain weight, also as you work out you'll develop muscle which will add to the lbs!
Thanks for the tips and words of encouragement!

As everyone said, make sure to do some weight lifting so the weight you put  on is not just fat but also muscle.

Peanut butter (and pb sandwiches, pb cookies, pb whatever!) has been responsible for pretty much every pound I've ever gained.  Other things to eat can be anything that people consider "fattening" like milkshakes or yogurt-smoothies with protein powder mixed in, cheese, pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches with lots of ingredients and some olive oil, baked goods, etc. You can gain weight and still do it healthy by avoiding saturated fats and stuff, just as long as you make sure you get in enough calories.

I wander if it takes longer to gain lbs or lose pounds.
try this:
peanut butter and banana milkshake... take a couple scoops of peanut butter (preferably crunchy), a banana, a scoop of ice cream, some milk(or water) and ice... its sooooo good, i'd drink it everyday if i wasnt scared of being 1280417280million pounds
breakfast:bacon, eggs, sausages, grits, pancakes, waffles... do it up big

dinner: mashed potatoes, lasagna, steak....

man, i'm not going to lie.. im jealous.. i wish i had the problem of being too thin

Peanut butter everything!
