need to gain

Quote  |  Reply

I'm about 5'5 and weigh 98 pounds. Is it possible this is an okay weight for me, or is it just an ED perception that I look fine? I feel like I have plenty of energy at this weight and can exercise but my periods aren't regular.

you could try going on the pill, that will make your period regular and one thing to cross off your list =) and supposedly the pill helps you put on weight..

i do not know if this is an 'okay' weight..im currently struggling to put on weight but as long as you're eating healthily and regularly then i don't see the problem..take care! xx

hi, i think you should look at your bmi and the fact that you dont have a regular period.  currently youre underweight which is not healthy for yourself or to become pregnant.  i too am recovering from an ED but i would suggest consulting w a therapist or nutritionist.

good luck

With a BMI of 16, no, that's not a good weight for you.  You're underweight by a good 15lbs unfortunately which is a sign that you're probably malnourished and therefore at risk of some medical problems short and long term.  If your periods aren't regular already then you should really get checked out by your doctor.  'Feeling good' and having energy is fine but it's not the same as being healthy.

Best of luck.
I was that weight recently and I'm about the same height. I didn't think I looked bad or felt too bad, but just putting on a couple pounds (I don't have a scale but I know I've gained some but not a ton) gave me more energy and I started realizing what I'd been missing out on. Be open to gaining a bit and talk to someone about your period.

I'm 99 and 5'3. I;ve been planning to gain to 110. so i can get my periods back, maybe 115 even.

No. The pill gives you valuable bone-strengthening hormones when you are underweight. However, the period you have on the pill is a withdrawal bleed, not a real period. Therefore you can still be infertile and having periods. You also won't know what weight you have to be for your periods to naturally return.

Remaining a low weight can make you permanently infertile. If you think the pill will prevent this, think again.

I just noticed - this thread is ancient.
