I think the trick is not to 'stick to a diet'  but to think more about a 'healthy lifestyle'.  If something is easy and enjoyable you'll be happy to do it.  If it's nasty and restrictive... who in their right mind wants that?

Losing weight then becomes a nice side-effect rather than the be all and end all.   The way to look at it, therefore, is a learning process over a long period of time.  One where you cook and eat healthier foods because you like them... not simply low-calorie foods because you're on a diet.   And you control the portions just a little rather than slashing quantities and making yourself miserable.   Junk food and sweets aren't 'forbidden' (and therefore more desirable) but relegated to 'rare treat' status.   Activity is important but, again, find something you genuinely like doing.  It might not be going to a gym... you may find you prefer something else like dancing or hill-walking.

Put it this way..... Do you procrastinate about brushing your teeth in the morning?  Do you need to be in the right mind-set to look both ways before you cross the road?  No....  They're just sensible things to do in order to look after yourself Smile and you've done them your whole life.  A healthy lifestyle can be something similar.  Then weight-control is a doddle.  Best of luck

I don't believe in diets. If it is not something you can stick to for the rest of your life why bother. You will just yo-yo. Eat a balanced diet. Look into clean eating. Choose the right food. Get moving. Exercise 6 days a week. Strength train 3 of those. Have your sweets but just not everyday. Pick a cheat day or cheat meal and eat the sweets on that day. It will give you something to look forward to and you will not feel deprived. Read food labels and make healthy choices.

I'm very happy with my ccing because I eat whatever I want--it is just that the portions are small! Because I am also eating healthier (and at first, I didn't "want" all that healthy food, but now that I can see the impact, WOW! I love the energy and other good results of healthy eating), I am not really hungry for a lot of junk food, so little bits are completely satisfying.

I'm also happy to have a "slow" weight loss, b/c it means I'm eating close to what will be normal for the rest of my life, and I'm learning how comfortable I am with that. My loss has averaged about 1-1.5 lbs/week for every week I've actually been ccing. That's not bad, and it means that when I go to maintenance, I'll be eating a couple hundred cals more than now--not a big change. So I really AM practicing a new lifetyle right now AND losing at the same time!

So, think about what YOU can live with. If it needs to be a big slice of cake every day, try planning a program with a small bit each day and give that some time. See if the healthy eating changes your need for that cake--maybe you will be satisfied with the little bit. In other words, add as much healthy food as you can while continuing to indulge your cravings in small ways. As you see success, feel healthier and more satisfied,  your "need" for those little things may disappear in part or in whole.

Good luck!

There is this"diet" circulating out there. It revolves around the notion as to why French women are so thin. I big part of this: they indulge. The trick: they indulge in SMALL amounts. I think that you could take a page out of that book to help you with a healthier lifestyle. Small indulgences. Being more aware of what you eat and treasuring the taste is also another way, you DO end up eating slightly yes. And also be aware of when you're hungry and full. Little tips like these will help you get far.

Oh, and...
littleshellys: a diet is whatever you eat. If you don't believe in that then you don't believe in eating. Fad diets, now that's a specific thing not to believe in.

I understand that your diet is whatever you eat, but the poster said she has been on "many Diets" which I took to mean she tried different kinds of "fad diets" Did you take it some other way?

The book is called 'French Women Don't Get Fat" and it's by Mireille Guiliano. Anyone that's never read it should add it to their Christmas list.  It's very true and quite amusing at the same time.
