Need help balancing carbs/calories

Quote  |  Reply

Hi!  I am new to calorie count and am finding it hard to balance carbs and calories.  My doctor has advised that I need to be eating a lower carb (not no carb) diet because I have PCOS.  But trying to balance the two has proven very difficult.  For example, so far today I've only eaten roughly 500 calories which means I have about 800 to go.  That's a lot of calories for dinner!  So if I try to cram all of those calories in then it would involve carbs.  This is where I generally end up at the end of the day.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!  THANK YOU!

how about you eat a salad with a ton of extras, like 1 oz nuts [180 cals], 1/2 avocado [150 cals], 6 oz lean protein [300-400 cals], that's a total of about 650-750 cals, then you can add a tbsp olive oil and some vinegar for an added [120 cals] that brings you to about 800-900 cals and it's just a salad. not too extreme. don't LOAD UP on the greens, but a moderate salad with those toppings will be healthy, filling, and get you to your calorie goal without being heavy on the carbs. please don't shoot down the idea claiming not to like any of these things.

if you don't want avocados, substitute 1/2 cup black olives, if you don't like nuts then use sunflower seeds, if you don't want olive oil dressing use some other salad dressing. i hope this helps. :)

Definitely helpful Chrissy, thanks!  Apparently I just need to start thinking outside of the box! :)  Thanks again!

I would also just try and make my higher calorie meal earlier in the day than the last meal.  This gives you more time to burn that higher calorie meal than the end of the day.  Its hard to do, I know, it sounds easier than it is.  Eat the larger meal for lunch and the smaller meal for dinner.  Sometimes I just eat both low calorie meals and I dont worry about it.
