NEED HELP with BURN METER
Hey guys,
I just joined up today and did the food and activity logs. I went to the home page and saw the meters...the Eat Meter makes perfect sense. The Burn Meter tho..when I added an activity to my log both the total estimate AND the meter number went up...I thought the estimate was what I was aiming for???
If anyone can explain it better than the Q&A section please do..I'm confused.
Thanks...and hi :)
Christina
Blu,
I just started myself but I think the burn meter estimates your total calories burned during the course of a day based on your activity level. If you added 400 calories burned on the eliptical machine, your daily estimate would go up 400, because it is added activity, and the burn meter would add 400 calories also, the percentage of your daily calories burned + the 400 from the excercise. I hope that helps.
Think of it this way. Say I'm an average woman with a sedentary lifestyle, burning 2000 calories a day. My total estimate is 2000. If I suddenly go and do an hour's running and burn an extra 800, then 2000 calories is not enough for me on this particular day. So my total estimate goes up to 2800, because that's the total number of calories I'm burning today. You see?
Hey thanks for the reply..I still feel dumb tho :P
Ok so the total estimate is an estimate of what I have burned during the day. So what is the larger number?
For example...I did aerobics just now..(low impact = 145 cal for 30 mins)
Before aerobics: Total Estimate: 1670 &nb sp; Burn Meter: 1463
After aerobics: Total Estimate: 1780   ; &n bsp; Burn Meter: 1580
It didn't add a straight 145 to anything..And am I supposed to relate it to the Eat Meter somehow? argh!
Haha relax, relax! Let the meter do the math so you don't have to. Basically, the numbers on your burn meter may not match up, because (this is kinda hard to explain, so bear with me)
If you were sitting still doing nothing for that half an hour, you would have burned 40 calories in that time. But instead of sitting still, you did exercise, burning 145. So you burned 145 instead of 40, so the total impact on your burn meter is 145 - 40 = 105. (40 won't be the exact number for you, because your metabolism may burn at a different rate to mine, but it's the same principle)
Does that make sense?
hehe oooooh yes that makes perfect sense. ok so the total estimate is telling me how many calories it reckons I've burned so far during the day...which is more than what I've eaten..and more than the recommended eating goal..
So then what is the larger number on the Burn Meter trying to tell me??
The little number at the top of the box is telling you how much you will burn in the entire day. The bigger number in the middle is telling you how much you have burned so far. So to lose weight, all you need to do is make the total number of calories you've eaten so far is less than the total you've burned so far. You see?
hahaha ive been on here about 2 1/2 mos now & STILL dont really get that.
im like you i have question after question.
i dont pay the burn meter any attention.
i just log activity & know what activities burn how much to keep track...
its too complex for me haha
sorry i couldnt help lol
oooooh its all so clear now..Sarkins ur the best hehe wow so I usually burn more calories than I eat, yet I still have cellulite..well that sucks!
thanks for ur help..all the best :)
Haha that's all right. Feel free to add or message me if you have any more questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
Not sure if this was made clear, but don't freak out if you enter in say 500 calories of activity, but your burn meter goes up less than 500. This is because the site will automatically calculate the number of calories you would have burned with no activity and then subtract your "added" burn.
Congrats on getting started.
You and me both. I joined on the 8th as well and having a hard time figuring it out. Also when entering foods...how would you enter a stir fry? It gets a little complicated. But the burn meter I do not understand at all..is it suppose to go down if you eat less or up if you eat more..If you get an answer I would appreciate a reply as well. what is the Burn? How many calories I burned in a day? I entered 1069cal. (skiped a few items could not find) but the burn meter was like much higher and I did 2hours of exercise that day so I am at a loss.
Thanks. Charmed1

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
