Need help with desserts/snacks
I have a huge sweet tooth... so I'm always looking for low cal desserts... here's what I've found so far:
berries with splenda, fat free whipped cream (only 15 cal) to put on whatever, jello cups are only 10 cal, fruit pops (45 cal), low cal fudgcicles (40 cal), 60 cal pudding snacks, weight watchers cakes (80 cal... small but good), or the 100 cal pack snacks that you see everywhere... i've tried cookies and cakes, they're alright
I LOVE tofutti!! I definitely agree that you should try the 30 cal fudge pops; yummMMMY.
Also if you can find fruit leathers (Whole Foods has them in a few different brands, same for trader joes) they're great, sweet, and all the sugar in them comes naturally from the fruit. Oh they're also usually around 35 to 50 cals.
Also I saw this on another thread: take an apple, chop it up and microwave for about 2 minutes, sprinkled with cinnamon. Then throw on a bit of healthy granola, microwave again for 10 seconds.
I tried it and it was great--I had it for breakfast and put a 6 oz. nonfat vanilla yogurt over it. And today I did it, only with a peeled peach, and it was heavenly.
Yoplait Light Indulgent flavours are good too although they do have artificial sweetner...
Everynight I let myself have a dessert of no more than 150 calories right after I finish my homework (around 9 pm)
So, I usually take a regular oatmeal packet (100 calories) with 1 packet of Equal (or your favorite artificial sweetner 3 calories) and then 1 tsp of chocolate chips or butterscotch chips (23 calories) So therefore I have a 126 calorie dessert that tastes delicious and it's heart healthy therefore I don't feel as bad.
If I am going to have oatmeal at night, I try to focus my dinner on veggies and lean protein and trying to go a little lower on the calories. But I let myself have a dessert everynight because in college you are usually craving sweets late at night (at least for me!) This is how I do it then.
Vitamuffin tops 100 cals
Greek yogurt ( w/sugarfree maple syrup, and a tsp of pumpkin) 110 cals
jello fat free pudding and redi whip fat free whipped cream 70 cals
Skinny cow ice cream sandwich 150 cals
1/2 cup frozen yogurt, 1 tsp pumpkin, half sheet graham cracker 110 cals
Angel food cake (1 slice, usually 1/6 of the whole cake), 1 TBSP sugarfree jelly, and 2 TBSP redi whip fat free whipped cream 155 cals
I could go on for hours as I am a sweet freak!! I have to have at least two of these EVERY night after my dinner!!!
Dessert/Snacks:
Sugar free pudding
Fruit sorbet
Blueberries w/ fat free whipped cream and cinnamon
Banana w/ melted chocolate on top or pudding
Mini bagel w/ fruit spread and nut butter
Trailmix; Dried fruit, Raw nuts, Dry cereal
Fruit smoothies. Ex; Fruit, Skim/Soy milk, Ice
Put in 100% fruit juice in ice sheets, freeze overnight
I think I'm the only person who is totally not into sugar free jello pudding. I make my own with gelatine packets, low fat cream cheese, cocoa powder or unsweetened chocolate and vanilla davinci's syrup. It's so delicious, like chocolate cheesecake! You can obviously also sans the chocolate & add vanilla, cinnamon and lemon extract to make a regular cheesecake.
I make a chocolate smoothie with a blender full of ice, vanilla davinci's syrup, cocoa powder, instant decaf coffee and a splash of milk. It makes a blender full of "frappucino" for maybe 50 calories.
I also love nonfat yogurt with stevia, lemon extract and cinnamon; unsweetened chocolate melted with stevia and some nonfat milk to dip fruit in; yam with almond butter and reddi whip; microwaved or baked banana on toast; banana with melted unsweetened chocolate, stevia/splenda wrapped in a tortilla and microwaved; bread or rice pudding; get creative!
I also believe in not going overboard with "healthy." Sometimes a substitute just wont satisfy, in which case I "go for it." If I don't I get obsessive, which isn't healthy either. Tonight for dessert we made cookies with ready made pilsbury dough. "Gross," I know, but soooo good! I crumbled a hot cookie on top of 1/2 cup light ice cream = 150 calories Last week my friend, who is a pastry chef, brought me butternut chiffon she's serving for Gourmet Magazine. I don't even care how many calories were in it, it was awesome.
I just found a great dessert! 1/2 cup of frozen raspberries (you can suck on them like ice cream) and if you need it 1 tbsp of dark chocolate chips!
I have to say, i love jello sugar free pudding, it is so awesome and there are so many flavors, then you can get creative. I like to add unsweetened cocoa powder or low fat cinnamon graham crackers. or just a little cinnamon over the top. I get real creative.
Sometimes i will mix 1/2 a cup of milk, ice and a sugar free drink packet into a smoothy, and turns out real creamy, especially if you add a little of the jello sugar free fat free single serving pudding packets, even with real fruit instead of ice it ususally comes out under 100 cal. great late night snack.
