need help figuring out my appetite and when to eat so I can maintain!

the past two days Ive been trying to control what I eat to some degree just to keep maintaining but I always binge at the end of the day (Im not too worried about loosing, I kmow Im healthy, dont worry). Actually Im not trying to loose at all, just maintan and learn about my appetite and that stuff. Im stick to 2500 cals a day since Im very active 5'8 19 and 145 pounds.  the thing that confused me is the past few days and Ive held back my eating some and have eating about 2500 without any problems but today I lost it and kind of had a small binge where I stuffed myself silly with anything I wanted to eat.  After my binge at the end of the day I actually ate less overall than the days I spread it out.  Is this because I ate most of my food before 1 and it kept me really full for the rest of the day? usually its night eating that makes me go over and gain weight. Im so confused! I thought when I usually eat breakfast I eat a ton more all day overall but today confused me? maybe I actually dont eat more with breakfast I just felt like I did because I just started counting calories and stuff? Its so awesome I can come here and get some help on this. you guys are great and sorry if anything seems stupid, Im just trying to figure out my body some :). thanks!

sablekit:  I don't know for certain if I understand your questions, but I will make a couple of suggestions.  First, though, it doesn't sound to me as if your "binge" was a "binge."  You stated that you "actually ate less overall than the days I spread it out."  So that is not a binge.

I do suggest that you not eat your biggest meal at the end of the day; I suggest that you eat a bigger meal at the start of the day.  Your last meal could be filled with things like fruits and vegetables.

  1. Record all your meals--and calories accurately as you can on paper or on a spreadsheet or on Calorie Count.
  2. Eat a great, healthy breakfast, preferably one high in protein
  3. Eat around 5 additional meals/snacks throughout the day.
  4. Get your healthy carbs, proteins, and fats in whatever formula you came up with.
  5. Eat fruits, vegetables, lean meats (if you are not a veg.), nuts, legumes, whole wheats, etc.
  6. If your maintenance is 2500 calories, then stick to that for a couple of weeks, daily average and see if you are maintaining
  7. weigh-in each morning at the same approximate time and record your weights for a couple of weeks
  8. exercise each day or almost every day--whatever you can comfortably fit into your daily schedule

if your a 19 year old guy, I wouldn't worry about any binge, unless you gained weight in the first place. My boyfreind never works out and he can eat 1000 calories in 1 sitting and not get fat, which would be a binge to me, guys mature later. Anyways Its actually really annoying how much guys can eat and never get fat so don't worry about it, as for the breakfast it actually controls your appetite and it startes your metabolism~erica

Rather than guessing, try entering your stats into this chart and reading off the 'Daily Energy Requirement' for someone who is 'very active'...  http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html 

If you're female you'll find you need 3120 cals a day to maintain your current, healthy weight.  So that's your target rather than 2500.  So if you're routinely undereating by 600 cals a day there will come a point where you need to catch up.... make sense?   Therefore, it isn't a 'small binge' it's just an 'energy top-up'.

Get the right amount of energy and you'll feel better and you won't gain weight.  Undereat when you don't have to and you'll constantly be topping up.
