I need help!
Hi everybody! I’ve been on and off this site for the last few years and when I managed to keep me on track I lost weight and looked great. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be consistent and I found myself around 95 kg (I think about 209 lbs, a BMI of 35 so that you fully understand the “size”). Ok, I gave up smoking and this “helped” too, but anyway… Last week we found out I was pregnant and we were really, really happy about it. Then I discovered I can not allow myself gain fat for two reasons: my baby’s health and mine. So I was thinking to keep myself at 2000 calories (the number I need to maintain my weight) and try to get those calories from foods as healthier as possible (like veggies, diary products and lean meats). Has anyone tried this? Do you have any advice for me? Last think I want is to do something to harm the baby. Thank you for your help!
Who told you that you shouldn't gain any fat? And does that mean not gaining any weight?
I think you have the right idea about trying to eat as healthily as possible and I would also suggest some light exercise. It helps a lot during pregnancy. I will say though, that weight gain during pregnancy is not all fat, you gain from things like increased blood volume, the weight of the baby and placenta and various other things besides fat. So don't be too alarmed if you do gain some.
But I would say that eating as healthy as possible will do wonders for both you and your baby. Good luck and congrats!
Thank you, benjmum for your reply and wishes.
I was thinking I can not gain weight, not fat, but due to the fact that I am not native speaker.... I know there are a lot of reasons for gaining weight but unfortunatley, I don't feel very well now (and not due to the pregnancy) and I imagine that with extra kilos or pounds I will feel even more awful :-(.
As for the exercises, I was planning some swimming but my doctor told me to wait until the second trimester for that :-((. I'm trying to find some specialized exercises for pregnant women but no luck until now...
Anyway, I rather want to appreciate this times, not to be constantly affraid that bad things might happen due to my weight ... After all, all tests proved I am healthy despite the weight. :-))
Hi, i am not in your situation but i agree that you can be healthy ( and probably are) even at a higher weight. Overweight women have healthy babies all the time, so i know that you will too. Good idea to eat as healthy as possible but if you crave a treat here or there enjoy it, you deserve it. i also agree with the light exercise, i am five months and exercise everyday for an hour. It really helps with labour:)
good luck and i know that everything will be just fine![]()

You can do water aerobics, pre-natal yoga, light aerobic activity ( like walking), and light strength training. Like lunges and squats. There are pregnancy workout sites on the web that you can look at. . Your doc should have given you a weight range limit for you. Somewhere around 15-25 lbs? If the doc hasn't, ask about one at your next appointment.
Thank you for your suggestion and for the reassurance... I do have some DVD's from the time when I tried to lose weight (and managing it...) and I'll pick the exercises that are not very ... hard. As about walking, i am trying to do that at least 2 hours per day. My doctor told me actually "No pool" until the second semester, so I imagine no water aerobics too... And by the way she said i should gain around 10-15 pounds if possible. So what I'm doing now: lots of veggies and fruits, as much milk and yogurt possible and some meat. Of course some treats now and then if I feel like it. I'm only 7 weeks and looking forward to the next 30 or so ones.
By the way, luvmyboy, good luck to you too... and thank you again!
