Hi everyone ![]()
I am trying to finally do the right thing, I see that the way I have been living my life for this past 3 months is killing me, it is so unhealthy, and now I feel all the side effects. Please help, it started 3 month ago, when I looked in the mirror and decided to loose weight, I went into a extreme diet, of only intaking 800 calories a day, and going to the gym and burning 400 calories in a hour. I am now 115lbs, and I just keep loosing the weight. I Don't want too, I am trying to up my calories to 2000 a day, I don't want to loose anymore weight, and I am not going to the gym for at least a couple of weeks, until I get some weight on me, it was the most stupid thing i have ever done in my life, and now I am trying to do the right thing and I am so confused. I can't eat alot cause my stomach gets really bloated, and I past foul smelling guess (sorry, just describing the symptoms) so I have broken down my food to 6 meals a day every two hours I eat trying to consume the calories. Now my question is how much of each Carbs/Fat/Proteins, do I need to consume, when I calculated everything, my calories add up to 2000 my carbs add up to 279g and my proteing intake adds up to 83grams, but my fat intake only adds up to 23grms, is that low?? Do I need to get more fat in my diet? I am scared, I need to gain weight or least try to maintain this weight, I already started to see my muscles get detiorriate, and lost of hair. It finally hit me that I am doing the wrong thing. I know I am trying to get healthy again. To the people out there please don't go in these type of crash diets, I was a healthy beautiful women, that weighted 130lbs, and all I should ahve done was gone to the gym, and burned some calories and i would have gotten toned. I didn't have to restricted my calories, like I did. Now I look, and feel like a zombie, and I am not toned at all, lost all muscle, someone please tell me if I am in the right track, just upping my calorie intake.....Thank you
Go to see your doctor. You're clearly not well either physically or mentally and they may be able to provide you with treatment and/or some specialist services to help you get back on the right track. Your doctor should give you a thorough physical check-up to assess any damage. Hopefully you can't do too much damage in three months.
You're doing the right thing not going to the gym any more and trying to eat more food. However, when you've been starving you can find the body reacts in a strange way to more food. If you're still losing weight on 2000 then it's not enough. Up it by 500 cals at a time until you're gaining steadily.
Try not to be too concerned with the carb/fat/protein amounts Focus on what you find appetising to eat, is rich in calories and what you can digest easily. You need plenty of food of all descriptions.... Your body will convert it all to energy. Counting grammes of protein & carbs only gives you opportunities to get stressed. Sip plenty of fluids to help your digestion cope better. Eat cooked vegetables (soups, broths) rather than raw salads as they're easier to digest. Yes you need plenty of fats.... eat full-fat dairy products, oily fish, nuts (and nut butters) and add plenty of oils to cooking... this also helps the digestion and will add useful calories to your day. If all you feel like eating is ice-cream, eat ice-cream. It would also be a good idea to take a multivitamin with iron until you can see your doctor.
Best of luck.
What are your stats? Height, weight, age? gi-jane has great advice for you that I hope you'll follow, this link also has good information on gaining weight, particularly for those who are recovering from disordered eating. You do need to see your doctor, doing it on your own without medical support to advise you on the specific areas you need to focus on for both your short and long term health.

Been there. Done that. Upping calories is hellishly scary, no doubt. And this whole process might be overwhelming for you to listen to, but I've done exactly what you are doing, and my internal organs suffer from it. Not only will my digestive system NEVER be the same again, but my gallbladder went kapoop.
Your answer (besides the obvious of "see a doctor") is to up your calories. If you're hitting your 2000 calories, that's great. Keep at it. I know when you were eating 800 calories you were likely eating 100 calorie portions of things at a time. Things that spread themselves far. Popcorn, soups, lean meats. You've been avoiding oil, and calorie dense foods. I bet you still eat your sandwich on a light bread. I know this, because I've done this.
Switching out the food choices is probably the easiest. What got me through upping my calories was zone perfect bars and nuts. It was 2 added snacks that didn't contribute to much food in my stomach, but they were calories in my system.
I don't want you to have to go through the pain that I am, so purdy please up your calories? Oh that rhymes :)
You know the cycle has to stop somewhere. And if I can suggest a book to read (really opened up my eyes) pick up Life inside the Thin Cage. It's a book about chronic dieters from a lady who was one herself. We can't be called bingers, nor anorexic. I wont lable anyone with those words, but chronic dieting... I'm STILL trying to get unstuck from that. PM me if you have any questions, and if you have the resources, really research WHY you are behaving the way you are, and WHY you are scared. It IS scary, but can you imagine being 65 and eating as little as you are/were? It's not a life, so let's try to stop the obsession.
