Hello everyone,
So I did what a lot of people did in the New Year. I went and signed up with the YMCA. I was doing great up to about 2 months ago. I lost 35 pounds and only had about 15 more to go. But one day I just stopped. I did not have the motivation and I think this was due to the fact that no matter how I worked out or watched what I ate I was not losing weight, but I did notice my belt getting looser. I guess this is a numbers game for me. I know, that is not how this should be.
So now, I am going to start going to the YMCA again and start eating right. Before I fell off the wagon I was going to the gym 6 days a week (3 days of cardio HITT on the treadmill and 3 days of weights). My HIIT sessions were running for an hour at different speeds. I was eating very healthy, lots of veggies (steamed), salads, chicken breast, turkey, yogut, egg whites and very little starch. I did not mind eating like this, actually I miss eating like this. Plus I was eating 6 times a day 3 meals and three under 100 calorie snacks. How can I keep the motivation so this doesn't happen to me agian?
If it's all a numbers game for you, ditch the scale and get yourself a tape measure. Take measurements of yourself (chest, waist, hips, arms, legs, etcetera) every so often (I like to do every 2 weeks or every month). Track your progress that way instead of with a scale.
I agree with gadzooks! Another idea would be to change up your meals and workouts when you notice you have hit a plateau. Your body gets used to what you are doing after a while. You may try switching your cardio from treadmill for a couple weeks, to elliptical machine the next etc... Check your calorie intake as well to make sure you are not getting to much or to little. Your body may be trying to hold onto the calories you are consuming because you are not accounting for the ones lost during your workouts. Another motivation tool find a picture that you think is horrid...one where you are at your heaviest with disheveled hair and all. Take this photo to Walmart or any photo center and have it blown up to 8x10 or larger and tape that puppy to your fridge door! Hope this helps and good luck!
