I need help!

Quote  |  Reply

Alright, here I go;

My weight has come to the poiunt where I hate going to school because everyone is skinier than me.

I am in grade eight, and already I'm dealing with these sort of problems! I never imagined my weight would cause me so much misery, but it has!

My height is 5'4 and I weight 200lbs. I'm looking to lose 50-80lbs before grade nine next year, so I can feel confident striding through those class room's, and wearing a happy glow on my face.

I have tried excersize and healthy eating alone, but it's just not cutting it. I lack motivation and will-power.

I'm looking for some healthy yet somewhat quick and effective diet's or programs. Everyone care to help?

Also, my mother's wedding is next September. I need to look great for it, seeing im going to be a bride's maid!

We're all looking for that  Smile

Since you're clearly very young I'd suggest that you start with exercise and healthy eating.... but really stick to it because it will have an impact on your shape.   That doesn't mean living on lettuce leaves and carrot sticks.... you need all kinds of healthy foods such as bread, meat, fruit, oils, vegetables, fish, dairy products and so forth.   A good balance.   If you'd like a suggested menu for a heatlhy teen try this site..... http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/teens /weeklymenu/  You'll see that it includes lots of different foods and, if you enjoy your healthy diet, you don't need lots of willpower.

Next step once you've got healthy eating underway ... use this site to work out your energy needs http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html  Enter you age and your stats and read off the 'Daily Energy Requirement' that matches your level of activity.  Deduct 500 - 700 cals from that number making sure you don't go below 1500 cals in total.   I'd strongly recommend that you get about an hour a day activity ... exercise, dance, cycling, swimming, walking around, kicking a ball... if you're under 18.

Start there.... healthy, varied diet first and calorie-counting second.   You do have the motivation but try to keep it pleasant and then you don't need so much willpower.

First of all there is no quick fix. GI Jane is right, keep it fun and be good to yourself and your much more likely to stick at it.

I am the same height and weight as you so if you want to buddy up your more than welcome.

Congratulations on taking the first steps and good luck!Smile

Hey Hailey,

I've been there, not wanting to go out of the house because I am self conscious about my size. Truth be told, I am there now.  I agree with GI Jane and Alycia completely, but I would also add that it might be good to find ways of rewarding yourself.  What are your hobbies and interests?  Also, I always find having a buddy with the same goal helps. I know you have us, but do you have anyone in your immediate circle who is looking to drop weight as well?
