im sooooo confused right now. i live in sydney (aust) but im pretty sure im about 108 pounds and 5'4 (like 162cm??). i'm 18. by the way i DONT weigh myself they were just my scores last time i went to the doc. ok my parents think i need to put on weight real soon. ive sorta been trying for a while but cant really bring myself to eat all the carbs all the time. im not losing weight anymore, i havent lost anything at all in several months (im just very slowly gaining).
anyway, does this sound like an emergency?? when i look at myself i think im ok, i guess i'd like to be bigger but dont really see it as a health issue. im so damn confused but im SO SICK of my mum nagging me. im sick of thinking about what i look like and i think its damaging my self esteem a bit (being told im too thin).
am i seriously too thin?? i recon alot of ppl are my size.

For your heigt, your weight seems okay. Don't worry about it. If your doctor does tell you put on some weight then just be glad to be thin while youcan. Because after college, marriage, and kids and plus just gettting older in general, you'd be amazed at how fast you can gain weight. I 5ft6in, and at 18 I weighed 138pounds. I am 34 and I now weight 291.5. I started gaining weight in college and never stopped. Being young and thin OKAY!!! as long as you don't have a medical problem.
im just pissed off that im being put under pressure to put on. i have better things to think about!! they want me to put on like 5kg, which would be fine but i just dont think its necessary. more views pls?? how do i get ppl off my back?? i think im just within the normal bmi range anyway
If you are still 5'4" and weigh about 108lbs, that's on the tinier side, but it still sounds to be fairly healthy to me. I'm 5'3" and aiming for about 125lbs...120 would be ideal but not probable for me.
However, if you have a naturally tiny frame, 108 could be reasonable on you. If you can, and it's not too much extra to worry about, try to add in a few extra snacks or so around the day...maybe just up your daily caloric intake by 200-300 cals.
Do what feels right for your body though. If you feel healthy and not overly food-conscious and obsessive, I'd say you're okay at 108lbs
you could show your parents your BMI and what a normal BMI is so they know you are healthy. and honestly, i am technically "underweight" on here, but my doctor says i am fine. so you could always go to a doctor with your mum.
or move out ;)
or move out ;)
yeah moving out sounds good haha
I'm 5'4 and I know that 108 is supposed to be a healthy weight for our height! Everyone is different and carries their weight differently; what matters is how you feel in your skin!
Without knowing you directly it's difficult for us to comment on whether you are too thin or not except by using the BMI tables.
According to the height and weight you have posted above, you are bordering on underweight on the tables and according to the guidelines on Calorie Count you are in fact underweight.
What depends is really what you, your physicians and your parents think together about the situation.
Are you eating healthfully at home? Sometimes more than your weight itself what sparks concern at home is your eating pattern - are you eating "normally" with a healthy balance of nutritious foods within the expected calorie guidelines? Are you consuming absolutely no less than 1200 a day and preferably more for someone your height?
Maybe have an open, honest discussion with your parents in a calm manner and explain to them your concerns. Hear them out without anger or fighting and come to a compromise.
If it is decided you need to gain 2-5 lbs you can do it and will still be thin and attractively slim for your height. You can use the Tools on this site to gain more weight and still be eating healthy things. You don't need to load up on white bread to gain weight, just count calories and make sure you get the recommended alottment you need.

Drink whole milk, add a glass here and there. You don't have to eat carbs to gain weight, just add a couple hundred extra calories per day and you'll start gaining slowly. If you can, make sure they're healthy calories, a handful of nuts, avocado, eggs with the yolk, etc.
My daughter is 20 (today) and she weighs around 115lbs so I don't think 108lbs at 18 yrs is out of the norm.
