by the way, if it has to do with anything ive had an ED since about june 2007 :( and i started trying to recover since novemberish and am just now finally doing what i need to for the past few weeks * began eating fats and such like 3 weeks ago, maybe more*
My hair went very thin buut as soon as I was eating enough calories a day it stopped falling out. However, it took as long as hair grows for it to grow back, so we are talking like 6 months at least of eating before it got some volume back. The hairdresser was like wow you have a lot of new growth, I've never seen this much all at once to me.
ok thank you soo soo much<33 i guess ill just try upping my calories even more :-x ugh i just ate soo much ice cream too and its already 8:30...haha oh well its vacation i can stay up late and eat =D
i feel the same way right now:( ive been crying in the shower becuase its been coming out in huge handfulls. i used to have thick hair and it really sucks:( and my head also itches:( and im confused becuase i went to the doctor and had nutrition tests done and im not malnurished. so what the heck?

i went to my uncle whos a chiropractor/doctor yesterday and he has me on a whole bunch of vitamins, idont even know what they all are but i am swallowing a total of 22 pills a day. this is the 2nd day and my hair is still falling out:(

ive never been this scared before
rastnim did u eat more protein or more fats, or did u just eat more of whatever?
And the DAY u started eating enough did it stop?
and did ur head itch?
OH MY GOSH i was itching my head as I was reading that liosa!!! I actually had similar things happen to me when I first recovered in 2004, (i am like a healthyish weight now). And no, just because you eat more calories ONE day does not mean your hair will not fall out. Think of it as your body doing like...a clean house. Its just trying to revitalize itself. If you are eating the proper amunt of fats and proteins and everything else to nourish your body, your hair will grow - i promise. However, my leg hair and all of that grows VERy slow and I think it has to do with this. My head hair doesnt grow all that slow, in fact it grows really fast - so I wouldnt worry :) I thought I had a bald spot in 8th grade (when I was severely underweight) now that I think of it, but i dont anymore!
same here liosa! in the shower it just never stops coming out! and then when i brush my hair after the shower even MORE comes out! im so scared it just wont stop and ill go completely bald, i used to have incredibly thick hair, thank god too because if i had thin hair to start with i probably WOULD be bald right now :x
every time i even put my hand on my head hair falls out:(

and im not malnurished?! im so scared. my doctor doesnt know either does my nutritionist?

so how long will it take for my hair to stop falling out if i eat enough everyday (which i think i do already?)
jessikkaa_x3 i THINK EXACTLY THE SAME THING! (good thing i had thick hair before this becuase if i had thin hair i would be bald!)

wow i think that EVERYDAY.

and i lose a toooon of hair in the shower and then after the shower ALOT more comes out!

wow i cant beleive someones in the same boat as me

yeah i dont take 22 pills a day for vitamins like you do lol, but i do take one-two multivitamins a day and usually eat enough. i also havnt gone to see a doctor yet or nutritionist but i hope this stops soon.

i'm 16, 5'4" and 83-87 lbs i know it's horrible and i hate it i want to be at my normal weight of 102-105 again!! * i know this is still low but i have a small frame and genetics make this normal for me*

if you hear anything about how to stop this hair loss please let me know and ill do the same :) its a relief to know you're in hte same boat so i know it's semi-normal i guess :P

its actually 4 different viatmins im taking, but 1 of the vitamins is a pack that has 4 pills. so the 4 pills=1 vitamin. lol
idk it makes me depressed every day. idk wat to do. i hope within a couple days these pills start helping.

i will definetly let u knwo if i hear anything.

hang in there:)

btw im 17 5'1.5" and around 100 pounds now. (up from 91, and my hair wasnt falling out then!!)
omg same here! ive actually been "eating right" or at least compared to when i was starving myself basically. and i wasnt losing any hair then! it all started right after i started EATING again lol what the f^%$!?
I ate more fat, I had to eat like 3000 a day so that I would gain weight, but I started out about 1200-1400 and that's when I really noticed the hair stopped falling out. I ate a lot more fat, but of course I was eating a lot more protein too, so I don't know which would have been helping more. And cos I was IP eventually I had to have loads of really fattening things like sponge cake and custard and chips (american fries lol) and all sorts. Out of IP I still ended up eating loads of chocolate at first, that stopped me from binging though which was good and meant my weight was able to stabalise and not go crazy and I didn't become a binge eater.
about how much protein were u eating each day, do you know?
Like dont count the proteins found in like breads and stuff.. i mean proteins from like meat and beans.
Uuuh, it's real hard to say, I can't really remember what I used to have really as this was 2-3 years ago. But say I'd have porridge or cereal with milk for breakfast, a snack would sometimes be a couple of egg whites and veggies, but not always. Lunch would be a wrap with like chicken in or tofu or beans, or a bean or lentil soup, or some cheese and bread. Dinner would be what my parents were having, so definitely some form of meat, lots of fish and chicken though. Quite a bit really I guess, considering before I wouldn't eat anything at all.

I wasn't anorexic but experienced rapid weight loss and as a result I've had severe hair loss.  I'm going to a doctor now specializing in women's hair loss and she has me taking a number of vitamin supplements, including fish oil, vitamin D, and biotin.  Biotin is especially important...it's a natural way of accomplishing what Rogain does, without the side effects.  Some shampoos also have biotin in them.  Hope that helps!
that helps soo so much! thank you =D
Liosa, could you have alopecia or telogen effluvium? A dermatologist is who you would see for those. Just a thought. I don't know what tests your doctor has done.
oh wow, my hair was coming out a TON when i was at my worst

it still comes out now, but not nearly as bad...
ive just been eating "normal" for a teenager for the most part..
wow jessikka and liosa i feel EXACTLY like you! like, word for word! hair always comes out in clumps in the shower and when i brush it. my friends are always picking hairs off my clothes and my mom is always like "your hair is so freakin thin!" and i looked at old pictures of me and my hair was SO much thicker! it makes me wanna cry SO hard!

im 16, 5'4'', about 98 lbs. i had more of an over-exercise thing than an anorexic thing, but i definitely didnt eat enough calories.

im not really sure what im eating now. somewhere aroun 1100-1300 a day, give or take. i know i should be eating more, and i've promised myself at least two spoonfulls of Omega-3 peanut butter a day lol.

i just saw my grandparents for the first time in two years, and since my weight loss, and they commented on my hair. i have pretty long hair, so it doesnt really help the whole "thinning" look. i too take a couple vitamins a day and try to get a lot of zinc because i heard that's supposed to help, but im not 100% sure.

anyway im SO relieved to hear that there are people with practically identical stats. now theres someone to recover with!
