Need Help!! Trying to Switch from Low Carb to Low Calorie Diet

Quote  |  Reply
Hi All,
I could sure use some help!!
I have done the low carb diet for a couple of years now and it has worked and not worked -- I have lost 20 pounds a couple of times and put it back on ++, and then taken it off again and put it back on again ++. I never was able to reach my goal weight --
Presently I am at the ++ stage and trying to diet again - I am 35 pounds overweight on a 4'11" small frame body -- So on me it looks more like I am 50 pounds overweight - I feel miserable and look like a reall rolly polly!! I look as wide as I am tall.
My daughter is trying to convince me to try the low calorie approach -- But my brain is so geared to thinking that I will gain even more weight if I start eating all those carbs.
It is really difficult to make the transition.
I was hoping someone could help me with my problem.
Thanks
Sharon

Go for healthy carbs! Eat all the luscious fruits and veggies you want - they are generally VERY low calorie, and packed with nutrition as well. Even yummy things like mango, pineapple, etc - they can satisfy any sweet cravings, help you feel full and satisfied, and contain fiber and other positive attributes. Whole grains can also be enjoyed pretty freely. You will need to continue to be careful with refined carbs - like white bread, white rice, refined sugar or white potatoes - they pretty much are junk calories without any redeeming characteristics!
Like many fad diets the low carb diet is a "quick-fix" that won't work long term.

As you experienced when you cut an entire food group out you will loose weight quickly, but your body will also compensate, begin storing all food and pile the weight on again just as quickly.

This is the reason that the low-carb fat was so big about two years ago and has now fizzled out, all the original success got people really hyped, but now they are all discovering that it is not lasting.

The key is a balanced diet with good carbs (fruits, vegetables and whole grains) all in moderation and balanced with protines and good healthy fats.

Good Luck!
You need to have carbs, you just have to watch how many and what kind of carbs you eat.

Thanks for the advise -- this is so new to me - I am really having a hard time knowing just exactly what foods to eat -- Plus the fact that my mind is so geared towards eating low carb -- eating fruit seems foreign to me -- It is pretty hard making the mental transition.
Thanks Again

Well ...Lurleen here...I am also 4'11...shhh I dont think anyone knows that...giggles...short and southern now thats a combination...but I eat only 1200 calories and this is to me an easier way to lose. I eat healthy things but I do eat the things that I like so I do not binge but now I have binged dont get me wrong but I always go back to my 1200 calories. Its easier to keep up with to me. My sissy she did the no carb/low carb thingy and she did lose but she also gained it all back...I have finally talked her into to trying calorie watching and TA DA she is starting tomorrow morning..yeah...try and see if its for you ...everyone is different what works for one may not work for everyone..do what makes you feel confortable and confident...I just like the easy route myself....huggers for your efforts...you can do it...

Tend to agree with supersized, the low carb diet was just a 'short fix' fad. Dont know anyone who is still doing it now. Had a friend at work who was on it and his energy levels were zero, he was close to falling asleep at work on a few occasions! He came off it after a few month and has put the weight back on so has now moved onto a more sensible eating diet to try and lose it again. Think a long-term sensible diet regime will be more benificial to you .
