I sure hope you all have a few good answers for me ......Jim

If I had to "guess" I would say that the extra weight you lost is probably just water.
Both me and my friend at work have experienced fluctuations from week to week during our diets.  I think that some fluctuation is normal.  Plus, you don't do the same thing every week, no matter how hard you try.  You may have been a little less active in your daily life on a low losing week, or eaten a few more calories than you thought.  I wouldn't worry about fluctuations as long as you keep losing.
My guess is that your first week you had extra water when you weighed in (various things can cause this)  so it showed you had only lost 1/2 a pound when actually you had lost more.  Now this week, when you weighed in, you have lost that water so the weight that  you lost last week is finally showing that you lost it.

This happens to me all the time...One thing that helps is to always weigh in at the same time everyday.   I know a lot of people who weigh in first thing in the morning before they have ate or drank anything, but after they have went to the bathroom.  This way you will get closest to an accurate reading without things like water or food in your stomache messing with the scale reading.   Also, I have noticed that I am not puffy in the morning( not retaining water) but by the end of the day, I can tell that I am starting to retain water..especially if it is hot.  So anyway..thats my two cents.

Good luck in your efforts!
My hypothisis is this:  I think that you lose the weight steadily BUT your body compensates for the lose temporarily by retaining water, maybe to let the skin cope or who knows what reason.  Then when it is finnally ready it flushes the water and you see a big drop.  :)  But then again its just a guess!  --Sumi
Jim, you see this phenomenon every time "Biggest Loser" has a new season.  Your first week, you will lose a significant amount, which includes water weight.  Your second week, you won't lose a lot (sometimes nothing, or even a small gain.)  THIS IS NORMAL!  Keep it up and week three should show some downward change again.
