I need some help and words of advice to get back on track!

Hi all...I'm so frustrated with myself..I let myself have one cheat day last week and I cannot seem to fully get back into my healthy eating habits! Some days are okay and some are terrible..the worst part is that I wake up 2 times a night and eat...hungry or not! I'm trying so so hard to break this habit! Some days I'm eating 2000-2300 calories but other average out to 1800ish...my eat meter says 1635 but I think that's a bit low as I do run over 40 miles a week (around 6 a day) along with the stairmaster and weight train a few times a week(HRM burn average around 600 cals per day). I also go to school full time so I am always on the go as well as I personal train 3 nights a week so I usually always moving around so I've been upping my intake towards 1700-1800 some days cause my body tells me it's hungry...but then I go to bed full and content but then something takes over me in my groggy sleep and I go down to the kitchen 2-3 times a night and eat eat eat...not necessarily binges and have been trying to eat healthy things but the thing is  I'm not hungry and it always puts me WAY over my calories...I try my hardest not to but I need some support to get my will power back! This is such a bad habit that I don't want to have the rest of my life!!! Right now I'm looking more to maintain my weight and not gain this holiday season!

Any words of advice and encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

You should read some motivating threads on CC ! It's what I do when I start being demotivated. You can think about all the good sides of not being fat...

Like ;

  • Getting constantly complimented on how good you look
  • Being able to pick ANY piece of clothing you want in ANY store
  • Being asked out by many more guys
  • Being seen by others as a model of self-disciplin and will-power
  • Not dreading a vacation because you'll have to wear a bikini... In fact, LOOKING FORWARD to it... ;)
  • Being able to relate when people talk about nutrition and fitness
  • Not fearing meeting people you haven't seen in a long time because you've got fatter than you were back then
  • Being less tired and more energic
  • Having a beauuutiful skin and a toned body
  • etc !

Hope this helps ! ; )

Maybe you're not eating the right kinds of foods to fill you up.  My gramma always recommends a spoonful of peanut butter to help you sleep.  So if you wake up, maybe try a spoonful or two, or maybe eating some before you go to bed will help you sleep better... ?  I know it's kind of like an old wives' tale, but it could be worth a shot!

Lately I've gotten obsessed with celery.  They say it actually burns calories for your body to digest it!  I cancel this out by dipping it in ranch.. but every little bit helps!  OR you could do a double whammy and dip it in peanut butter.  Wink

I'm not an expert by any means, but maybe what you're eating during the day has too many calories and not enough substance to keep you full.  Drink lots of water, and make sure you're not taking in any caffeine later in the day so you can sleep better!

Here is a thought... you are not eating enough during the day with all of your exercising, training, running, school, etc. Please re-check your calorie needs based on your age and heighth. Maybe if you are truly full, you will not wake up and eat!

Next, getting up to eat when you are NOT hungry is a HABIT. That is it. Just like any habit, you need to come up with strategies. Maybe the next time you wake up, say to yourself, I am going to drink this glass of water next to my bed and go back to sleep. The next time I wake up I am going to read 15 pages of my book and go back to sleep. The next time I wake up I am going to brush my teeth. (you get the idea). If you have a PLAN on what you are going to do, then it will be easier to change your habit. Also, maybe try deciding WHAT you are going to eat when you wake up (I am going to eat 3 LARGE carrots --  how boring is THAT?!) It won't ruin your calorie count or get you excited to get up and eat! Of course you will still have the HABIT. Good luck.
