i need some ideas for food /:
hey everyone. i just got my wisdom teeth out this morning. i can only eat soft foods for a good while until the stitches dissolve. and i'm having a real problem with that. i've eaten less than 400 calories today :( and i KNOW thats BADDD, i promise i dont need lectures on that. i'm just having real trouble finding food to eat. i've had jello, soup, and some pudding. we've got applesauce, ice cream. i don't like yogurt. mashed potatoes maybe? can anyone give me some help? i want to be able to still get up to my 1400 calories a day, even without solid food. anyone have any ideas?
oatmeal and cream of wheat. Also, you can get creative with throwing things in a blender (smoothies)
Hun, when you're sick, don't worry about calories! Just focus that energy on healing.
Mashed potatoes would be good, maybe with a bit of cheese or sour cream mixed in? How about scrambled eggs, cooked just a little soft? I lived on those when my teeth were out. I mashed them with my tongue, didn't chew.
i already gave you ideas :p you could always mash stuff up like meat or something. like old people have to do :p
I ate a lot of vegetarian vegetable soup when I had mine pulled.
Cream of wheat, I ate alot of that. Mashed potatoes with garlic in them is really good. I also ate canned deviled ham with a fork. When I started getting a bit better, I had scrambled eggs, nice fluffy soft eggs. Like another poster said, I mashed them with my tongue too. Other than the obvious, soup, yogurt (I know you don't like), apple sauce, pudding, jello... there isn't much liquidy.
Whatever you do... don't SUCK on anything. No sucking at all (ie a straw).
Maybe make some mac and cheese. Overcook the macaroni so it's soft and mushy.
I got mine out two months ago, and the first two days I mostly ate soup, applesauce and a banana. I would stay away from pudding, ice-cream or yogurt (and all dairy products in general), the bacteria could cause an infection. At least that's what I was told by my doctor, and it makes sense. I wouldn't recommend oatmeal either, some of it may get stuck in your stitches, and I don't know about you, but I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to reach that area with the toothbrush.
Anyway, I hope you'll feel better soon. I guess I was lucky (or everyone had been exaggerating) when mine were pulled, cause I wasn't in very much pain at all, and my cheeks were hardly swollen. I hope it's the same for you!

because it will put suction on the wisdom teeth holes and suck out all the coagulation and cause dry sockets and poor healing and a whole lot of PAIN!
I pretty much lived on ensure for a week after mine were taken out. The top 2 were pulled but the bottom 2 were cut out and then the 2 bottom back teeth had to have bone grafted to them (or whatever it is called) - because they had been growing into those teeth. The stuff didn't "take" and I had to go back for them to dig it all out and try again. THAT HURT!
Good luck and wish you quick healing!!
Whole milk, olive oil, baby-food maybe?
When I got mine out I ate regular food starting the next day (I just had to squish it a little since I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to take normal sized bites). and didn't have any problems.
Food: Soups/broths,mashed potatoes/gravy,applesauce,baby food, malt o meal. ( There is a variety of different ways/kinds of soups/broths and mashed potatoes/gravy you can make. Turkey Gravy, chicken Gravy, Brown gravy, country gravy,Etc. That's a way you can dress up your potatoes so it's doable again and again. Lol Sweet potatoes mashed also works so be creative with those potatoes. Add herbs/spices,etc. Same concept goes with soups/broths.
Drinks: Orange juice, broths, and water.
I had all four of my wisdom teeth cut out on the same day. Plus: I had the four bicuspids removed/ pulled the same day in the past on another occasion. I have a small jaw so they had to be removed prior to my braces being put on as a teen. :) So believe me... I empathize with you and your pain! Btw: I started with broths/gravy/baby food and worked way up from there ... to soups and mashed potatoes. I actually only ate the gravy and drank broths for a little bit. :( It's kept me going though till I could manage more. So: I suggest it to you! Malt o meal with mashed banana was a blessing to me...yum
I actually cried when my mother handed me a bowl of that. It was just so thoughtful and perfect.
<3 Try it.
it's really a non-issue to have dairy, you're taking antibiotics to fight infection and it is simply not that big of a deal. i drank boost drinks when i got mine out and ensure. I also ate mashed potatoes and gravy as others have mentioned. you could also eat potato cheese soup since it's more calorific than other soups. drink TONS of fruit juice. You can make smoothies without ice since it'll have to be sucked through a straw, but use bananas, peanut butter, and dark chocolate, blended with milk and yogurt...then you won't taste the yogurt...or you can blend it with ice cream. another one would be strawberries and bananas blended with apple juice/orange juice/grape juice....you can just have mashed banana with peanut butter mixed in and you can eat it like pudding kinda and maybe make it a bit smoother with some milk. you can also have malt o meal, cream of wheat, all with butter and cream added to keep your calories up...they have butter with added olive oil to make it more nutritious..so don't worry...not trying to throw tons of bad stuff at you. anyway, after a few days give regular food a try you might be shocked how quickly you can eat again...it hurts at first but i think thats partially mental and is quickly overcome once you start eating again!!
Is it possible to make some smoothies with yogurt? I know you said you don't like it, but maybe if you put enough other stuff in the blender you can disguise the taste of the yogurt- and Fage Total 0% has a LOT of protein in it (20g/cup), so it's a good way to get some protein whilst unable to chew meat.
ahh you guys are amazing! i love the smoothie ideas! and ill definitely try putting some yogurt in, and disguising the taste. i got mashed potatoes for dinner tonight and they were yummy!
my doctor told me the same thing about sucking on straws. so i'm thinking of going to a tropical smoothie tomorrow and getting a kiddie size + spooning it haha (:
and i loveee mac + cheese! so ill definitely be trying that one too.
ill stay away from dairy tooo.
and floggingsully, i have the same problem with opening my mouth. i MIGHT try baby food, but im not sure that it will taste that great.
ill try to mush up some fruits too.
thank you guys sooo much, all of you! :D
and my mouth is doing a little better, still really sore and hard to eat, and im reallyyy tired all the time. but hopefully i'll be better soon! XD
