I'm driving, alone, 17 hrs, on Monday.  I just bought some low sodium beef & barley soup to put in a thermos.  I made chili, for the trip here, but didn't stop long enough to eat it, so hoping I can drink this soup.

I miss hot food the most, but restaurants are too slow for me.  I also am taking beef jerky, power bars, orange slices and cheese.

The problem on trip here, I drank too much water and I swear, it seems like I had to stop at every single exit for a restroom.

I have salt free cheese and making a little sandwich with that with my homemade multigrain bread.

I may eat more, but driving burns a lot of calories, besides I need to energy, so have to eat almost every hour.

good luck and have a safe trip.
19 hours? Wow...

Hoummus and vegetable crudites would be my first selection - slice up as many veg as you can! Carrot, pepper (capsicum), mangetout, sugarsnap peas, crispy lettuce leaves, celery, some people like brocolli...also, some sliced pita bread is always nice, but quanities should be watched - it is quite easy to eat too much pita...

Pack some fruit too.  I'd go with 4 per person for the 19 hours.  Stuff like blackberries always goes down well, and because its loads of little things, you can nibble at a lesiurely pace. When I go on the train to hartlepool (only the 8 hours - your 19 makes me seem wussy!) I buy a 150g tub of them that my local shop sells - 46 calories! Its fab, and I can normally eat them over 1 hour (there's about 20-30 in a pack)

Also, chocolate rice cakes are good if you can get your hands on them, so long as you only bring a few - when you stop, I'm willing to bet chocolate will be available, and after that long on the road, motivation can be down, so I always bring something with chocolate in it, and the rice cakes I buy are only 56 cals

thats another thing. Ryvita, if you like it, is amazing.  I'm not its biggest fan, but recently I've started eating it with cauldron vegetarian pate, and they taste amazing!

If you do eat meat, low cal turkey slices are supposed to be healthy (I wouldn't know, veggie here =])

Just posted this in another thread too. It is great if you are in a situation where you have to eat out You can find at least one of these restaurants in any state!

Fruit is the best thing to have on hand (apples, grapes, oranges)... pre-package almonds into 1/4 cup serving baggies as that is great for good fats and protein! Popcorn is great for fiber and munching! Also, the "crystal light to-go" packs are great to throw into water bottles. If you need sweet, werthers original candy or "nips caramel chews" are great! They take a while to chew and are 20 calories a pop! Hope this helps!
