Need a kick in the flabby backside!
Hi guys! I've kind of fallen off the exercise wagon lately, and I just need some people to yell at me. :)
I had to stop lifting in April due to a back injury, but by July/August I was running regularly. Then in August I began IVF treatment, and I wasn't allowed to work out hard for a good month.
Now it's all done (IVF failed) and I'm back to normal life, but somehow my laziness has become habitual. Thankfully I haven't gained any weight, and lost whatever weight I gained from IVF, but I feel like a blob.
Someone please remind me that the elliptical and powerblocks in my basement are lonely. :) Every day I've been planning to use them, and every day I end up napping instead. Not cool.
I've made a wall-climbing date with a friend on Sunday, so at least that will force me...
You don't need to be yelled at -- you've already figured out that connecting with a friend will get you out there doing something.
IVF is tough for the body to endure and although the weight has returned to pre-IVF, the fact that napping is appealing means your body is still adjusting.
The elliptical and powerblocks downstairs are more than happy to let you recuperate for a while longer -- make dates with friends to get out and do something with them for motivation and encouragement.
I am sorry that your treatment was not successful -- and that part is harder on the mind and soul than the body. Probably connecting with a friend is exactly what the (not actually flabby) backside has ordered!
Now for the yelling part: *be kind to yourself willya?!* :-)
Yeah, I totally agree...don't be so hard on yourself!
When you're ready, the elliptical and powerblocks will welcome you with open arms!
Good luck!
I don't think I'm being too hard on myself, but I do think of my body as a "failure" right now. And maybe getting some fitness back would make me feel some level of control over my "defective" body.
But you're right--it's a balance between self-love and self-improvement.
Right now I'm waiting on tests to find out if I have cervical cancer before I can try IVF again, so I was hoping to fill some time (mentally and physically) with working out. But although the mind is willing, the body and soul are still trying to catch up. :)
If you need a kick in the butt, just get to the gym & do the kicking yourself!
Once you get back on the horse, you'll remember what you are missing. That high that you get while working out & after.
Plus, for a bad back the best remedy is always weight training. I had such a messed up back when I lived in LA from poorly lifting a 80lb speaker while on a rickety ladder
. As soon as I started weight training my back pain was gone and NEVER came back. 8 years + now.![]()
Kick your own butt into gear! Never beat yourself up or call yourself names. That voice in your head is supposed to be your friend. Friends encourage you and cheer you on. GET TO IT!
Hey there, Feyd!
You know how much you miss that feeling of meeting the challenges you've set for yourself and how good it will feel to get back into the swing of things. Don't think of what you've been doing as making you into a failure - what you've been doing is undergoing a period of strategic deconditioning. How else can one get the rapid improvements of having newbie gains all over again?
Strategic deconditioning? <snorfle> I'll have to remember that one. :)
I'm getting there. Went out for a run yesterday. It felt good.
Thanks, everyone!
