you need to eat. just eat good things. or use moderation. or rather than eating, do something else - exercise, clean something, read a news article, etc.

if you know you need to do it for yourself, then do it. no one can make you do it except for you.
Hi Tina!  Welcome to CC!

If you posted a bit about yourself on your profile, we could probably offer you more specific advice, but just in general I'd say that if as your topic said, you "need to lose 100lbs," maybe think about why you need to lose it.  I think we all have different reasons, but many of us also share reasons for wanting to eat better and lose weight.

For some of us, that might include specific health reasons, improving emotional feelings about food, gaining confidence, having more energy, adding years to our lives, becoming healthier and less likely to need medicines for certain weight or eating related medical conditions, wanting to wear different clothing, wanting to be more responsible for our health and appearance, etc.

I hope this helps!!  Good luck, and let us know how you're doing!

Hey Tina!  I'm new here too (signed up today) and I also need to lose 100 lbs.  Not fun, that's for sure!  I guess we just need to start somewhere .... so here and now is where it's gonna be!  Good luck - I'll be rooting for you!  :)

Hi Tina,

As others already said, you need to keep eating, just in moderation.  Now that said, here are a few tips that have helped me to lose weight in the past:

1 . Keep some fruits and vegetables cut and ready to eat in the fridge.  When I get really hungry I reach for the easiest thing.  I love mangoes, but found they were often going bad in my fridge because when I was hungry I didn't want to take the time to cut up a mango.  Now when I get home form the store with groceries I will take the time to cut up a mango and put it in gladware.  The days I come home for work starving, the mango is ready and waiting for me.

2. Learn what foods you enjoy that are not calorically dense.  A nutritionist I was seeing a few years ago told me that 1/3 cup of rice has the same calories as 3 cups of popcorn.  What she emphasized to me was "You can eat rice.  You can eat popcorn.  But if you are feeling really hungry the popcorn is probably a better option because it will fill up your stomach volume wise without being high in calories."  Now when I want to have rice with dinner, I measure out the amount, and I also make sure I fill my plate with lots of veggies like zucchini that aren't many calories, and I try to eat those first.  As my stomach gets full of the veggies, I find that the little rice portion is enough and I don't need to go get seconds of the rice.

Good luck!

Sometimes, I get into the habit of recreational eating.  I try to find other hobbies that I'm interested in to take the place of food.  Keeping busy doing something fun that does not involve eating always helps.  I just got to the point where I'm tired of food having such control over my behavior, it's not even so much weight loss as just being free from this compulsion to stuff my face.  Find something you really enjoy, and focus on that.

I am new here too. I am on a double mition i want to stop smoking and lose weight all at the same time. I have found many articles and have talked to my x husband who was a personal trainer and he has given me alot of great ideas. We are actually competing against each other to lose weight and body % kinda like the biggest loser to help our 5 1/2 year old to want to exersize and eat healthy. We are working together on all of this and he frequently sends me emails that he has found or i do the same for him. So here is my advice.

1 find someone to work out with and diet with. When you feel like you cant take it call them so they can be there for you.  You will have to weigh and messure yourself and fess up to whats going on if you did not lose weight. You will have someone right next to you that can help incourage you to work out and give you the modivation and help you need.

2. figure out what a portion is. What fits in the palm of your hand....Ask a nutritionist.

3. Eat slowly...stay away from things like pasta they have a tendancy to cause you to feel more hungry and can sometimes cause a craving.

4. 20 min after you eat if you feel hungry drink a glass of water (Not Cold that can cause you to feel more hungry so room temp or warmer) , a cup of hot tea or a mug of hot chocolate (compair brands find the ones with the least calories make it with water not milk no marshmellows (takes care of a choclate craving too))

5. Go threw all of your cubards get everything out that is considered junk food. or not healthy for you. Do the same to the fridg. get rid of all soda unless it is diet. Be careful with diet soda it has been proven to aid in memory loss. I know that sounds dumb but it has.

6. Take a pic of yourself. take a look at yourself make duplicates. Grab a perminant marker and cut off everything u dont want. Meaning hip, butt, tummy and draw the type of body you want. Hang it up next to what you look like now. Everywhere you go bathroom mirror and fridge look at it everyday and tell yourself i can do this. A rose goes threw a lot of dirt to be beaustiful and i can do this.

7. Come up with a safe diet weight watchers what ever. Ask a nutritionist. Type out the diet and put it on your cuberds and your fridge. Look at it it will remind you that insted of grabbing for something unhealthy to grab something good. But if you got rid of eveything bad it will not be a prob.

8. Use cinimon to season food. It has tons of beinfites to your health and to losing weight....Oh and if you sprinkle it on potatos after you buy them at the store it will help them not not gorw if you dont eat them right away. Crazy hugh.

9. Have preped fruites and veggies in your fridge at all times. You are hungry grab those.

10. If you have a life partner ask them to be supportive of you. Ask them to be sympathetic and not eat totally tasty food infront of you like a big mack or what ever it would be that makes your mouth water.

I have tons of others if you want more ideas. I am going to try to use this site everyday so please feel free to send me a message if you have and questions. That goes for anyone. I will answer as best i can or find a place that can answer your question. Good luck to everyone.....Its hard trust me i know.

Wow ss820!

Great ideas.....thanks for the input!   You got any suggestions on exercising?

for me it helps to think of food as something I eat not because it tastes good or I am bored or any other reason.. but as something I eat because my body needs it to be healthy.  Obviously people enjoy to eat and our society makes it easy to do lots of it unhealthily, but if you think about assessing what kind of nutirition your body needs when, and weather or not you are actually hungry at the time you eat something, you may find that you reevaluate when and what you eat in a way that will modify your eating enough to loose weight.  Try not to think of it as depriving yourself, but as giving your body only what it needs to be healthy.  Good luck!

Hi there, I am in the same boat.  I need to lose around 100lbs.  I will be here rooting for you.  I know how hard it is to stay focused on eating healthy.  My biggest thing is I have the biggest sweet tooth ever.  I'm hoping to overcome that in this new year.

I'll be here to support you.  If you need a buddy let me know, I'll be there.

Hi tina, Welcome

I have only been on the site a couple of days but I am finding out that the people are great! I too need to loose 100 pounds. I get really hungry after 9 pm because I am usually up very late. So I am working on finding a way to work that out. Add me to your friends list. If you need to talk I'm here.

Hi Tina,

I dont need to lose a whole 100 lbs, could probably stand to lose 70 but a more realistic, appropriate goal for me is 50lbs.

I have issues staying motivated and all the advice in that huge post, made me want to sigh and go to sleep. Thats the problem- I lack motivation to even do all of that.

phew trying to lose weight is exhausting and it makes me hungry.

Need help too.

But I'm rooting for ya!!! Good Luck!

I am loving this site.  I have gotten great ideas and met a couple cool people already.

I am finding it is helping to keep me motivated using all the great tools.  Looking at what I ate for the day and seeing if I need to eat more.

Now that I've gotten the diet part down (day 12) I now need to incorporate the exercise.  I was afraid to do both from the start in fear I would overwhelm myself.

Anyway I guess my advice (which like I said I am only on Day 12) is to log your food and be aware of what your eating.  Get into a routine.  I prepared some of my food for a three day supply so I am not constantly cooking and preparing food.

Hope this helps and stay motivated!!
