I wanted to wish you luck.  We're all of us on these boards going through the same thing whether we're losing 100lbs, 50lbs, or 10lbs.. Smile  The only real difference is the time it's likely to take.  Try not to set out by thinking it's going to be difficult.   A healthy lifestyle is often more fun and rewarding than you might think.... especially when you've got company.   So good luck with your weight-loss.

Thanks alot! Would you mind if I add you as my buddy?

Hi Bethie421,

I need to lose about 100 lbs and also would love to have someone to talk with about this.

Can I add you as a friend? Hopefully we can help each other out!  I have tried so many times to lose weight, only to end up gaining more.  I am so sick of the cycle and I desperately want to break it! I dont even care if I reach my "goal" weight.  I just want to be healthier and fell better!

I wanted to wish you the best and send you congrats because you have taken the first step in any weight loss goal.   "I an going to do it!"

The determination, will power all comes in to play.  Your age, how much you want to lose and how fast you want to lose it are all factors.   When we gain weight it is many times emotional and that must be taken into consideration.  Meditation, prayer, yoga etc.  helps to calm the mind so you do have that other help which is far more than anyone person can give.  You will have your ups and downs, it is not an easy job but it is not impossible.

To help you on your way get acquainted with  the CC website...set up your profile, get as much data into the set up as you can, start your food log so you know what your eating and not just the calories but the fibre and nutrient value too.  Education is very important, getting to know why the fat, how the body gets rid of it and what you should and should not do especially when it comes to exercise.

Start a diary, record how your feeling, weight, measurements, foods you like that are healthy and their calorie count.  Put in positive affirmations too because "where intention goes energy flows."

I usually suggest people get a heart monitor, a wrist one which runs $20 and up.  The hreat circulates the blood that moves your fat out of your body you want to make sure it is happy with what your doing.

And because you losing a significant amount of weight, it is always a good idea to make your Doctor or Health Practitioner aware of what your doing.  Consider a 6 month check up if you can afford it or your health care will pay for it.

Hope this helps.

yes please do add me.  I feel the same way.  I am so sick and tired of being overweight, tired, and depressed.  I have a great family and really should have very little to be depressed about.  Yet all I can think about is my weight and how awful I feel and lookFrown  I have only ever lost a significant amount of weight once and gained it back shortly after.  During those few months when I was down 40 pounds I felt so much better physically and mentally that I can't believe I let myself gain it back (and then some).

Hi Bethie,

I've lost 25 of the 100 pounds that I want to lose.  Don't let the numbers scare you and don't expect to lose it overnight (or even in 3 months).  I think a reasonable goal is 1 year but remember that even if it seems long that you'll be looking better all the time.

Hey Bethie and desperately_trying,

Chaotickitty and massageguy is right. Don't go for the quick fix and education is really important on health. I've lost 20lbs and very happy with it but it took me 2-3 months. Just think of it this way, the slower you lose weight the harder to gain it all back. Try to research on your own how to lose weight and ask some help here. Don't think of losing weight as punishment and try to include a cheat meal once per week in your diet so it doesn't feel like a chore. Good luck to you and I wish you the best.

Hi Bethie!

When I first started, I had about 70 pounds to lose and I've lost about 46-48.  Don't worry about the total amount you want to lose at first, just do what you need to do and you'll have success.  I suggest that you select various smaller goals along the way that you can reach in a relatively short amount of time.  I did this and found it much easier to keep on track.  For example, I started out at 200 lbs and my first goal was 10% (or 20 lbs) lost.  My next goal was to be "overweight" instead of obese (169 lbs).  I recently hit another one which was to be slightly overweight (155).  I am now at 153.5 (fluctuating between 152 and 154) and my next goal is the upper limit of a healthy weight.  The point I'm trying to make is that if you just say, "I need to lose 100 pounds," it's easy to get frustrated when your only down a few pounds and you have so much more to go.  If you say, "I'm going to buy myself a new purse when I reach 20 lbs lost," you've got something that you can attain in a reasonable amount of time and then you can set another small goal.  Anyway, that's what's worked for me and I've managed to stay on this journey for 11 months when every other time I've attempted to lose weight I'd be lucky to keep with it a month.  Any help you need, just ask.  We are all here to have success and to help each other.  Good luck!

bethie: *hugs*. I'm just giving that now, because over the course of your weight loss, I think you'll need one sometime! I'm at the lower end of what I'm looking to lose (lost about 75, looking to get into the "average" weight range) and yeah, its a difficult journey. But don't give up!

My issue when I was starting is that I COULDN'T find a friend on here looking to lose what I was. Any group I joined always had me as the biggest, heaviest one there, and it was disheartening. But it kind of feels good for me to have that memory now, because being slim feels like even more of an achievement!

Welcome to CC! Good luck!

Hi and welcome!!!

I have been where you are now and can seem quite daunting! But like others have said, don't let the number scare you. Set up small goals for yourself. For example, my first goal was to lose 30 lbs, then another...etc... next thing I know I've hit the 100 lbs lost mark!

However, the MOST important thing to keep in mind with ANY decision you make regarding food and exercise is that it HAS to be for life. So don't do anything rash just because you are initially very motivated. For example, I allow myself treats everyday and have a cheat meal once a week. That helps me to stay sane and still enjoy foods I love.

Keep in mind it is harder to keep the weight off than to lose the weight. So for me, whenever I reach a mini goal or a plateau I just keep going with what I've been doing.

I wish you all the best!!! You'll do great!

Hi Bethie!

I just wanted to say "Hello" and wish you every success with your weight loss.  I have only been using this site for about 10 days but I have found it amazing!! - 1. the friendliness of the members and 2. I have found counting calories and keeping track of what I'm eating really useful and informative-  I didn't realise I ate so much until I started logging it!

I have 64 pounds to loose...so it's going to be a long journey for me too!  but I have prepared myself for it.  I realise that not every time I step on the scales I'm going to have lost weight- but I am not going to let this dishearten me and get me down- like I say it is going to be a very long journey- over year- and I reckon I can "afford" to have the odd one or two bad weeks in this time.  I'm just going to stick at it- I'm in it for the long haul- and I'll get there!!  Every pound lost is an achievement and a step closer towards your goal.

I agree with what other members say about setting yourself smaller targets.  For me, my first target is to lose 5 pounds- then I can say I have 50-something more pounds left to lose rather than 60-something more.  You don't say exactly how many pounds you have to lose- you just say it's over 100 -so why don't you set your first target to be reaching 99- you will then be in double figures rather than treble figures and that would be a great achievement and would be fantastic!!!

I just want to say well done to you for taking positive action to improve yourself and your health- I really wish you well on your journey!!

Add me as a pal, no problem.

I have about 120 left to lose (lost 10 so far).   It may take a while.  But you just have to keep thinking you can do it.  In a year you can be a significant amount lighter..or you can be the same.  Either way, you'll be a year older. :)  Good job on starting out now.  One step at a time, one day at a time. :)  Good luck.

I need to loose about 80 lbs, just started working out and counting Cals about a month ago.

Its hard at first, but you can do it! We all can!

I'm also looking for buddies too, its hard doing this alone- I'm surrounded by people who have never really had weight issues.

Hi Bethie!!! Welcome to CC!!! I have about 100 to go, I've already lost 60 but another 100 would put me right where I should be.  Glad to have you join us! The best piece of advice I can give you is to really read the forums, there's alot of questions answered and alot of myths debunked here which I find very helpful.  Good Luck!!!!!!

I am in the same boat!  I lost 145 pounds 5 years ago.  I kept it off for 3 years and then I met the love of my life who didn't care about my size or loose skin.  I started putting the weight back on.  In 2 years I have managed to put 95 pounds of it back on.  I was all the way back up to 275 pounds.  I  have lost 20 pounds again since I decided I needed to lost it because I liked the way I felt when I weighted 180 pounds.  I need to do it for my health no what I see in the mirror. I was very unhappy with what I saw even after my weight loss because of skin issues but I was at least healthy!!!!!!  I need to get back to were I was.

You are not alone!!!

Hello, Bethie! Welcome to CC also! *waves to the other CCers that posted* I have about 80 lbs to lose and definitely cannot do this alone as well.  This site is definitely helpful with figuring your calorie intake and has lot of good information but be careful when you read forums, though... I second j9gwen's idea about reading up on the site. Feel free to add me as a buddy for support, motivation or chat! I hope you don't mind if I add you. Wink Good luck and WE can do it!

Hi Bethie - and everyone else!

I just joined this site yesterday and can't believe how much information is available.  I have about 90 to lose and hope this time I can do it.  I'm really motivated (today) -- hopefully that will happen more days than not but it's nice to know there is a community out here that can help  - especially with the tough days.  We're not alone!

Hello bethie421,

I too, need to lose 100 plus pounds. I started the journey of healthy living at the end of last year and so far I have lost 45 pounds. I started off by making a decision I would not get caught up in the "quick fix" weight loss drama. I avoid all the magazines with the articles about getting ready for swimsuit season and all the rest of junk. I'm talking about real change, things I will do for the rest of my life. Eating properly-meaning eating foods that will produce life in me, exercising, getting a enough rest, and staying hydrated are all things I need to do day in and day out.  The other people who posted said, not to look at the difficulty of loosing 100 pounds, they are right. Loosing a 100 pounds is an investment in you. For most of us, if we piled on a 100 pounds or more, self was at the bottom of the list of priorities. Take one day at a time, start with one thing. I started with drinking water and eliminating diet soda. I lost 19 pounds in 31/2 weeks with that change alone. Once I had that licked, I worked on the nutritional aspect. I went to a nutritionist got a customized meal plan based on my goals. Then I began my least favorite part at the time- EXERCISE. I hated it because everything hurt. My knees, my back. It took about a month to get to point where I did not have any aches and pains. Well, as of today, May 15th, I am weight training about 3 days a week, and doing cardio five days a week. I have played tennis two days this week, and I love it! I would have never tried tennis in a millon years. With every inch and pound lost I want to try different things, things I would have considered as impossible before. The most dramatic change is in my thinking, yes my body is changing, but the way I think about myself is improving. I see myself as worth the committment. Enjoy the journey, you are going to learn you have way more inside you than you think.
