5'4 125pounds...do i really need to lose weight?
hi all,
I'm pretty new here. I joined CC because I wanted to start eating better. I don't really count cals, but I am interested in the nutritional value of various foods..i was lacking B12 for awhile and I want to make sure that never happens again!
I few weeks ago I started looking at the forums and the posts...I must say that I've never thought of myself as fat...but many of the posts are from ppl my height that are 115pounds or less saying that they are fat and need to lose weight..kinda makes me feel like a cow.
Now that I'm paying attention I've also noticed that many women in my area are a lot thinner than me. I know my weight is healthy....but why the hell is everyone so skinny?
I guess my question is: Does anyone else at a healthy weight feel this way? Should I really lose 10pounds? I don't know...I'm starting to feel like I'm fat..blah...
No way! It sounds like you're at a healthy weight. Your BMI is right in the middle. Most of the people who want to lose more weight than that are going for vanity pounds, not health (to be honest, I'm one of them). Some people are also really small-boned and do have a higher body fat percentage at that weight. Others are anorexic, and not good examples to be following. But if you're comfortable and healthy (normal cholesterol, blood sugar, etc), stay where you are and just make sure your nutrients get up to where they're supposed to be.
i just saw your post on the side, never went to this forum before---
NO-YOU DO NOT NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i read posts here of people who barely eat anything, i need to tell myself that that is there problem, maybe rude, but dont compare yourself! 5'4, 125, thats perfect! my goodness, no such thing as perfect, there are ranges, ya know, i think for that height it goes from maybe 120-145, 150? i think youre at the low end. focus on being healthy, thats great, dont stop eating, you need the energy. im recovering from an eating disorder, dont get sucked in! keep eating, maybe change your choices if you want, but you do not ned to lose. sorry so long, good luck!
I'm 5'4'' and 142lbs - 125lbs is a weight I only dream about. Consider yourself lucky!
thanks so much guys..I really needed that...and yeah I don't want to get sucked into an unhealthy body image.
I guess the media, this site and so on have been messing with my mind lately.
I don't think I'll be reading any more "I'm 115pounds and so fat" posts.
I have a small frame and I'm certainly not skinny...but I'm healthy and that's what matters!
you guys rock..thanks again!
just need to repeat myself, dont try to lose, just be happy!
People have REALLY different concepts of what is ideal. Some people want to look like the love child of Paris Hilton and Skeletor.
You know you are not fat, so dont read into other people's crazy insecurities or ideals.
I'm 5'7 and I felt like perfect for me was when I weighed between 160-175. Other people who are 5'7 say they feel fat at 135. I just have to dismiss it as either they must have a teeny weeny little frame, or they have been sniffing paint fumes.
OMG tortoisewins your post made me laugh so hard...I needed that! Thank you.
No kiddding, I LOVE that line!!!
I am 5'4 and 125ish too. I came down from 137! I dont think my body will LET me lose anymore weight. I just dont want to gain it again, so i come to CC often just so i can start eating better in general.
I'm really glad you've noticed this too... lol... i was starting to feel like a cow as well.
You may want to use this web site to help you maintain your weight and learn to eat healthy foods and exercise.
Several people on the site have mentioned that they were at their ideal weight at some point in their lives, but fell into bad habits and were obese or severly over-weight before they started focusing on their health.
This is your oppotunity to not let that happen to you. :) Good luck!
Your body frame and age has a lot to do with the ultimate answer-and btw, there is no ultimate answer.
No matter, at 5'4" at 125 there can be no weigh you way too much!
I'm in the mid 50's and if I were to get to my weight as a teenager, I would look sickly. I know this because I was at that weight last year and looked terrible. Since you feel good, you look good. Like what has been said before get the proper nutrition and make sure you get some exercise in to your life. That is just to keep your body working and healthy.
Oh gosh, if you are 125 pounds at my height and believe you need to lose weight, then I'm a herd of cows if you feel like a cow. At 5'4'', my goal is to weigh 131 pounds. After checking with my doctor, she said that people at our height can weigh anywhere from 114-151 pounds depending on your bone structure. Please don't try to do anything unhealthy when you are at a perfect weight and stick with your goal to live a healthier lifestyle.
i'm 5'2" 115lbs so proportionately we are pretty much the same and i feel like a COW! My goal weight is 105. I know its not that much of a difference but its something i want to do for me. 105 is still a healthy weight for me and i'm not starving myself by any means and blah blah blah. if you want to lose weight strap on your belt and do it! i totally know how you feel so msg me any time you feel you need a companion lol :)
You are definitely NOT fat.
Sounds like you started CC with the right intentions of getting healthier. Don't let the forums start making you think you're fat. I see people all the time freaking out on here who are at a completely healthy BMI. And there will always be people who are thinner, more fit, etc., but do THEY have a healthy intake of B12??? ![]()
I weigh 120 and am 5"5. Any thinner than that and I feel like I am starving. 120 is a good weightt for my height. If I have been lifting and eating more than I usually do, I can get up to 124. I feel that I can eat well and not deprive myself and maintain this weight, while eating or limiting some things in moderation. Do you feel good at your weight? If you do then don't lose weight.
