Need to make a "chocolate caramel vanilla cream" cake
... or so says my 3 year old daughter! She begins preschool on Monday and at Sunday dinner with my in laws I am planning to make her a cake to get her excited. I bought a chocolate cake mix, I will make vanilla cream icing, but how do I incorporate caramel into this? Any ideas???
In the ice cream aisle they should sell caramel sauce wihch you could drizzle over the cake or even mix into the cake batter. You could make a layer cake by baking 2 circular 9" cakes (if you can) then put the caramel sauce between them, then frost.
I am not sure but there might exist caramel baking chips (check the baking aisle). All you'd have to do is melt them down or put them in the cake as chips.
They do make caramel baking chips. They're just in the baking aisle with all the chocolate/butterscotch chips. I like the idea of the caramel sauce though. Or you could do both! Sounds like you've got a little chef on your hands! LOL! That's a pretty good recipe idea from a 3 yr old! Good luck!
I'd do the caramel or butterscotch chips mixed into the icing in the middle and decorating the top of the cake. Another way to do it is to crush up some candy bars that have a hard, crunchy caramel center.
I have the caramel sauce AND I was thinking of throwing a couple of Rollos in there. Rollos are like Caramello bars, they're chocolate with a caramel center, and I have put them in rice krispie treats before. I recommend that - its DELICIOUS. I had purchased the caramel sauce but wasn't sure if it would work or just sink to the bottom!
