So for some reason bread has been making me binge lately, so I can't have it around for a while.  I need things that fill me up, looking particularly at more protein-filled meals.  I love nuts, but the size of the serving you get is pathetic.  So anyone have any high-protein low-cal lunch ideas?

Also, I need to figure out a way to add protein to breakfast.   I don't like eating eggs everyday because of the cholesterol and all, and sadly they don't have egg substitute in the UK.  Also, not a big fan of cottage cheese.  Any ideas?

 egg whites, easy substitute.

Tuna, chicken breast, any lean meat.

Protein shakes are also great.

hmmmm take a protein bar put it in a blender and a banana I love bananas and pour in protein shake mix and add milk, oh and peanut butter. More protein than you can uh use. Tongue out

Seriously though think canned tuna, lean ground turkey, any other fish, beans (more fiber than protein but hey it works) etc. etc. Mostly suplement with protein shakes. When i've 'ad a shake and I'm still low I scarf a can of tuna whole. No carbs, no fuss.

Egg whites. You can make an omelette (add bits of lean meat, beans, or tofu for extra protein), make pancakes with oats mixed with egg white (add cottage cheese for more protein), add egg whites to your oatmeal (add nuts or cottage cheese for added protein).

Breakfast smoothies are another great option. You can add milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, fruit, nuts, protein powder -- whatever you want.

You could also have leftovers from the day before. Breakfast doesn't always have to consist of breakfast foods. ;)

Soymilk, tofu scrambles, soy protein powder, meatless breakfast sausages or patties, soy yogurt, nut butters, nuts, whole oats, flaxseed or wheat germ, soy protein bars (Clif, Luna, Lara, etc.)

some ideas that maybe haven't been mentioned include Edamame or Hummas.  Just watch that your fat doesn't go up too much as with nuts or peanut butter.  Canned Tuna or canned Chicken can be really easy and convenient too.  With the chicken you might want to rinse it  once it's open to get rid of the oils its packed in.

I know you mentioned you're not a big fan of cottage cheese, but as a snack this is my favorite source of protein.  Some brands literally make me gag but others I like.  Just took a while to find it.  Also finding how dress it up took some time too.  My favorite is adding pepper, onion, red pepper flake, and/or chili sauce.  I don't like to fruit my cottage cheese.  It brings on the gag factor again.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm hummmus goood. dip edamame in it! for super protein. oh and spinich has a lot of protein (pop eye had pretty descent guns eh)- annd if you eat a tomatoe with that your body absorbs twice the iron :)

*sigh* The marketeers have done such a good job at making protein magical.

Fill yourself up on vegetables.  Broccoli is 33% protein, mushrooms are 60% protein.  Have a look in the CC database, you'll find lots more protein in veggies than you think.  What's more, you'll end up much more full and you'll stay full longer because of all the fiber.  Oh and don't forget all the other goodness that comes along with it like antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, lignans, etc. etc. etc.

You should choose high fiber foods to stay full longer. peanut butter with celery or apples is a great snack to satisfy your cravings and keep you full!

beef jerky.

i am incorportating more protein into my diet too, and this week i started adding beef jerky. ive been eating the Jacks Link's , i really like the peppered, and for 80 calories = 15 g protein and .5g fat:)

i love it

i honestly don't understand the whole obsession with protein. i agree with mikelane.

btw, RDA for protein is only 65g (more if you're an athlete)

i have to admit, anackng on cottage cheese made te weight just melt off, when i started eatingit regularly (like, once a day) - do they sell flavored cottage cheese in the UK? stores near me have flavors like cracked pepper, pineapple, peach, chive and onion... but you can add your own canned or fresh fruit for flavor too.

unlike a lot of other snacks, i was actually FULL after having some.

Heheh, not to put anyone else down, but Alaina, I think vegetarians know best in this category of nutrition! xD

The whole rest of the population OVERLOADS on protein because they think it will help them 'build muscle' and all that crap. What it's really doing is causing them to take in extra unnessessary animal proteins, calories, and cholestorol, and it's ending up stuck onto their bodies as exess fat. It's disgusting.

My aunt has been on a low-carb craze thing for a while now, and she says, "When I drop off the carbs, I drop off the pounds!" Well, sorry for her, but eventually when she starts eating fruits, vegetables, and grains again; all the weight will come back on.

I wish people would just use common sense and eat a balanced diet without having to worry about proteins. Protein is one of the EASIEST things to get into your intake; I could easily exceed the 70grms I need daily if I wanted to.

You should look into plant-based proteins (even if your not a vegetarian!) the Diet and Cancer Report states that individuals should limit their animal-based proteins to 18 ounces per week in order to decrease their risk of disease.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do agree that most people in the western world eat more protein than their bodies actually need because they think it is better for them.

To get off my soapbox and answer your question, how about some of those meatless sausage patties for breakfast? they are delicious.  Or, sometimes I eat grits with tomatoes and black beans (if you're from the UK maybe you aren't familiar with grits... they are basically the southern US version of polenta.)

Very broad generalization that isn't even remotely true.

I'm taking in at least 200g of protein a day (22% of calories), half of which is from animal sources. It's definitely not "ending up on my body stuck as excess fat." I am building muscle at a pretty good clip. My cholesterol is very low, and I probably eat more fruits and veggies than a lot of vegans.

11 percent animal-based protein is not high at all.  There are a lot of people who overload on protein which causes them to have problem with saturated fat intake and cholesterol, not to mention their increased risk of disease.  You aren't one of their people, but they do exist.

I'm aware, but 11% for me is 100g. To people like Kate and mikelane, 100g of animal protein is supposedly fatal.

Wrongo moose breath.  Don't put words in my mouth.  Getting greater than 10% of your calories from animal protein increases your risks of chronic diseases.  That's what I've said over and over and over again.
dm84, I can't figure why you're being so defensive.  are you a cattle rancher? dairy farmer? factory farming lobbyist?
