In need of motivating music
I just got an ipod and I was hoping some of you could give me some suggestions of motivating music to put on it. I'm a big music fan, but as wonderful as Stevie Wonder is, he really isn't what I need to work out as intensely as I'd like to. So far I have a little rap (Missy Elliot) and Michael Jackson's Off the Wall album (whole thing). Any ideas?

- Motley Crue: "Kickstart My Heart"
- Paul Oakenfold: "Ready Steady Go"
- Crystal Method: "Busy Child"
- Republica: "Ready to Go"
- Rob Zombie: "Superbeast"
- Slipknot: "Duality"
- Propellerheads: "Take California"
- Chemical Brothers: "Galvanize"
- Combichrist: "Get Your Body Beat"
- Paul Oakenfold: "My Love (Remix)"
I have tons of ideas for you! I would suggest Green Day- Brain Stew, Xzibit- Concentrate, anything by Ludacris, Christina Aguilera- Fighter, Def Leopard- Pour Some Sugar on Me, Tone Loc- Wild Thang, and any other song that basically makes you feel like a bad ass (because when you feel like a bad ass, it pushes you to be stronger and work out harder!) If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know!
In Itunes do a serch for podrunner. Dont know what type of music you are into but I enjoy techno and these are great workout songs.
Hmm... Personal preferences play a big part here and you've given us Stevie Wonder, Missy Elliot, and Michael Jackson!?!
Well, I pick whatever makes me wanna get up and dance when I hear it. For me, that's some of Blues Traveler's faster stuff, Jimmy Eat World, a lot of ska (MU330, No Doubt's older stuff, Reel Big Fish, Mighty, Mighty Bosstones, Sublime, etc)...
For some reason I find Rush's Red Sector A to be good -"Are we the only ones left alive? Are we the only human beings to survive..." *blush*, okay...
...SmashMouth, SpinDoctors, newer big band stuff like Squirrel Nut Zippers or Cherry Poppin' Daddies, as well as some songs that just make me smile like some of the faster They Might Be Giants and Violent Femmes songs, and finally the White Stripes.
Another one that I like the words to is Fooling Yourself by Styx "Get up, get back on your feet -you're the one they can't beat and you know it..." etc. Okay...
So... I'm kinda all over the place too -mostly older stuff. The newer stuff I listen to is kinda folk-sy, which doesn't pair with exercise very well. But, I'm a music addict and I always play music while folding laundry. When a good song comes on and I find myself dancing to it, it goes in the exercise playlist and hopefully onto my new phone that I'll be using as an mp3 player too when I get it as well since my old mp3 player died about a year ago. :-(
Dunno if this helped, but I think I've just outted myself as being a bit odd... Oh well.

No one ever suggests old(er) rock on these things! I love rap and techno too, but the stuff that really makes me smile and work harder is Boston, Train, Kansas, Aerosmith, ACDC, Foreigner, stuff like that. Make sure to pick stuff you like over just going with upbeat stuff, I've found that I work out much better to stuff I know and love than stuff that's just upbeat
good stuff everyone! thanks! I have some downloading to do...
The vast majority of my "Gym Mix" playlist is Kelly Clarkson songs... all the fast stuff from her 2 most recent records (Since U Been Gone, etc). Moves my butt like nothing else!!
Black Eyed Peas really get me going... Talking Heads... B52's.... Daruda Sandstorm is my "power" song, it's like 180 BPM and really gets you going!!
... Abba... Madonna... Blink 182... The Clash (gotta have the clash!!)... Red Hot Chili Peppers... the Police... Supertramp... Paul Simon if you like him (good for walking or long slow easy running)... Cheap trick
I also have a bunch of Elvis Presley on my ipod... I love Elvis. :-)
Verve, Remixed Vol 3 is an awesome album for walking.

err...Well, the music I like, nobody has ever heard of before.
Basshunter is this Swedish guy, and he has some amazing music- most is dance, with great beats and even better vocals.
Mika is an English guy, and I love listening to "Love Today"
Chumbawamba (another British band) has a great album called Amnesiac.
Eiffel 65's "Move Your Body"
and other random stuff nobody has heard of or likes. XP

hmmm, I gravitate to the much harder side of things to exercise to, to really get me pumped. I like Linkin Park, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Korn, Sevendust, Tool (just saw them live last week), music that really drives me to push it hard.
Hey, Chumbawumba is cool. Tub Thumping!

Woot! Somebody else listens to Linkin Park when exercising! : P
yup, in fact Linkin Park is a fave for working out for me, great beat, driving music, angry themes. Just what I need to get me going at 6am for my workout.
I lke prince, always upbeat and fun.I also like Depeche Mode, Howard Jones, UB40 and Blue October. Alot of 80's and early 90's music.
I have too many songs to fit on my little shuffle now :) Thanks for the suggestions! I got a lot of great ideas
