Need some new Breakfast Ideas
I am getting bored with the same breakfast everyday, steel cut oats with flax seeds and dried cranberries. I need a breakfast that I can carry to the office and since I have a thyroid problem it can not contain any calcium. So that leaves out all yogurts, even the vegan yogurts add calcium. Any Suggestions?
I usually have this as a snack or small meal...slice of whole wheat bread (I like mine toasted), Tbsp of Peanut Butter w/ slices of banana on top...I love having it with a glass of milk, but I am sure wate would due in your case.
what about low carb mini bagels and natural peanut butter? Higher in fat for sure, but super delish! And it's morning...more calories in the a.m. are ok cause you have all day to burn those bad boys off. oh crap, not sure if there's calcium in pb.
otherwise, something similar to the steel cut oats but a diff. texture/flavor...have you heard of hemp hearts/hemp heart seeds? I have had them with dried blueberries and I swear I was full well through lunchtime. THey are superfood. They are just kind of pricey and I am a student again and can't afford them. You kind of heat them up with water or milk or whatever and add fruit or whatever you'd like. As nutritious as flax seeds if not more, i think!
I like this easy breakfast: 2 frozen waffles (Nature's Path brand) with chopped walnuts or pecans, topped with apple butter or jam + 1 cup soy milk.

Yep, hemp seeds are quite nutritious. They are a source of all 3 omega fat (3-6-9) whereas flax is primarily a source of omega-3.
Whoops.

Get some lean ham lunchmeat (most only have like 10 cals a slice), eggs and English muffins. Toast your muffins, nuke about 2 egg whites for a minute (40 cals) and warm up your ham piece there too if desired. Make your breakfast sandwich and wrap it in aluminum foil so it's warm when you get to work. It is fast, cheap, good, low cal and pretty nutritious.
...this is the vegetarian forum. Always be sure to check before you post, or you may end up giving some poor girl with anoriexia ideas on how to cut calories from her menu. Gotta be careful!

Sorry about that! This topic showed up in the general "overview" of hot topics so I just read the post and hit reply. I didn't even notice I was in "vegetarian." My bad :).
i second the peanut butter and banana idea. they are delicious together. apples and peanut butter as well.
perhaps you could make a batch of homemade granola type bars?
Ultimate to go breakfast is smoothies! Throw some frozen berries or other fruit in a food processor with a banana, water or soy/rice/other milk and give it a spin. Top with a tablespoon of ground flax and grab a small handful of walnuts on the side. For a nutrition boost, make it a green smoothie with some Romaine/spinach/collards etc.
ahhh no yogurt! that cuts 1/2 my ideas...
buttttt
i like smoothies....and you can add your flax seed to smoothies...you can also buy preground flax seed. i put 1/2 a banana + 1/2 cup of oj + 1/2 cup frozen blueberries + 1/4 cup of frozen mango + 2tbsp of flax seed
eggwhites with tomato, onion, mustard and wholegrain toast
Kashi with raisins, almonds and a banana
i also like granny smith apples with PB! and maybe a piece of wholegrain toast
Try a wheat bagel with a morning star farms vegan sausage patty and egg beaters egg. It's a great low calorie breakfast sandwich, quick, ready to go in the microwave, and you can wrap it up and carry it with you.
Some mornings I have one slice of whole grain bread with peanut butter and raisins on it. You have to put the raisins on and push them down a bit (I put them all on and then just press lightly with my hand). It is wonderful and filling!
