In need of an opinion...

...I need advice, too.

I'm on a weight gaining mission ( as much as I hate it *cringe*) that my mum has insisted on. She says I have a goal of 2300 calories every day! I may be a little nuts, but that, to me, seems like way too much.

My goal is supposed to be gaining a pound a week until I'm up to 110... six pounds into the future. I'm not unhappy at my current weight of 104, but I do lose a little hair, and I stopped having my period about six months ago. :/

So, does anyone else here think 2300 is a bit much? I think I'd be better off taking in 1800 a day, personally. But... an expert I am not. ;)

(stats are: 16 yr old girl, 63 in tall, medium frame, light activity/sedentary, 104 lbs )

I think that...if this is a problem for you...and it sounds like there is a problem...you should be under a medical physicians care.  What do you think??

It also should matter what makes up those 2300 calories per day...the whole purpose should be to make your body a healthy machine that will carry you through to adult hood doing all the things it was meant to do....dance, love, run....all things - glowing with health!!  Health is from the inside out!  That should be your goal always.

Take care!!
Go with the 2300 or as close to it as you can manage, I think you'll find that you gain less than 1 lb per week.  Make as many of them healthy fruits, nuts, whole grains, veggies, protein as you can.  You will feel better for it.  If she were just shoving ice cream down your throat, then I'd see your point, but you need more calories than you burn so you can put on weight.  When you reach your target goal, then play around with the calories so that you maintain or gain less agressively.  If you find that you've put on too much weight, you'll be in better physical shape so that you can take a few pounds off without making yourself ill.

As you put on weight, your body will repond by not losing hair, your period will come back.  Both of these are signs of your body being in significant distress.

Nuts, avocado, whole milk, yogurt, cheese, brown rice, all of these are items that are healthy for you and contain a reasonable amount of calories so that you won't feel over stuffed as you're eating.
let me surprise you. 16 r. old female. 5"4. 2750-3000 cals A DAY to gain. not kidding.

you need A LOT MORE THAN  YOU THINK when u're still growing... go to a dietition. i did.
And P.S. I kept freaking I'd gain, like 4 pounds a week or something. I didn't. You'd also be surprised how small the gain will be and how gradual.

You know... with this being a medical issue (ie. you are suffering physical symptoms) I'm surprised your mom isn't taking you to a dietitian. That way you are sure to get the proper treatment and you would also be assured you are getting good, professional advice.

The symptoms sound pretty scary... I hope you get on the road to health and recovery very soon Laughing

Could you eat that many calories and work on building muscles through exercise? Muscle weighs more than fat. Make sure the extra calories are good calories and that the foods are healthy, nutritious, and beneficial. I am 65 inches and 110 lbs. I exercise everyday and usually take in 2000-2500 calories a day. I am always surprised by how many calories I can consume without gaining weight as long as I burn the calories through exercise. If you build muscle through weight training you're bound to gain good muscle weight AND you'll look healthier.
