So besides egg whites, and tuna i don't know what else i can eat that has very little to no carbs. I almost always eat more carbs than enough protein or fat, i need more protein! Can anyone tell me what else i can eat that pure protein? I do eat fish, any seafood but it takes long to prepare and i dont have any here right now
I actually have the same problem but the way I fix it may be a little unconventional. I drink my boyfriends protein shakes. If I drink two a day that is about 300-400 (depending on how I fix them) calories and it will be 100% daily value of my protein. Also, maybe other kinds of fish, like tilapia or cod. Good Luck. If your interested in the shakes though let me know I can give you more specifics on them.
If you don't mind cottage cheese (I personally LOVE it), try that. :D
13 grams protein per half cup.
And greek yogurt (non fat) has about 120 cals and 22 grams protein per cup.
Amazing! I like to get tiny catfood-looking canned shrimp, mix it with some cocktail sauce and put it onto rice cakes and toast and such.

Do you mean the yogurt Fage? I ate the one with the strawberry and i love it, i need to buy more of it if thats the one. I can prob. eat cottage cheese with something in it, or on something but not plain, thanks!
Mussels. You can buy frozen mussels in sauce, boil in bag and have a delicious meal in 5 minutes loaded with protein.
Don't worry about carbohydrates. Seafood aside, if you're mostly vegetarian your protein sources are going to have some carbohydrate element. Foods like beans, lentils and other pulses/legumes are a great way to increase your protein intake. Try eating whole eggs so that you get a little more fat into your diet. Low fat dairy products are useful. Quinoa grain is good. Nuts and seeds ditto. Don't forget tofu and quorn. Try to get a variety of proteins throughout the day.... e.g. some eggs with breakfast, hummus on the lunchtime sandwich, a snack of nuts and stir-fried tofu with supper.
Cottage cheese, peanut butter, eggs, nuts, beans.
I'm in the same boat...My diet is way mostly carbs..I don't eat many things with a lot of protein..honestly, on most days my diet is at 15 percent protein..yikes! I've actually been trying to add in more things with a little more protein in them, but I think in a way my body has been rejecting them because I've been feeling pretty sick as of late. ![]()
Vegetarians only need about 35 grams of protein a day.
Don't eat white bread & pasta etc. Stick to only whole grains. Buckwheat pasta is great, I make spaghetti with it. (You can usually find it in the asian section). Throw some edamame in there and you have a high protein balanced meal.
Some processed soy products are almost completely protein. Like veggie dogs-they are usually 50-100 calories and almost 100% protein. Try those with some vegetarian baked beans.

... where'd you get that number from?
I was wondering the same thing! Why would a vegetarian need less protein than the rest of the population?
Lots of nuts, can on the table by TV, in salads, or as the "breading" for a fired chicken tender- crush pecans - roll chicken in egg white and coat with pecans- all protiens - so good.
Also- publix has low fat NO SUGAR pnut butter- and if you look at all th diabetic foods you will find a lot.
Lastly- Myoplex- Choc Fudge drink from SAms has 42 g protien and 300 cal- awesome breakfest or lunch and it is like getting choc milk- so good.

I got it from a vegetarian nutritionist who I used to see for weight loss. I guess she could be wrong but I highly doubt it.
The general USDA guidelines are 50 grams based on a 2000 calorie diet. Most Americans have no problem achieving this amount including vegetarians.

You are in a vegetarian thread and most of us are watching out weight. So I am not sure why you are advising us to eat a lot of nuts and chicken, especially fried chicken. Chicken is not a food in this forum, it is an animal.
Someone mentioned mussels. I love mussels! Especially with white wine sauce, but i bought some today and they are all dead! :( They were all open and smelled, so i threw them all away. Now i dont know what else to eat. I still need to eat more protein
THIS IS THE VEGETARIAN FORUM. These people (for the most part, I'm a pescetarian) DO NOT EAT MUSSELS.
Do people not understand what the VEG part of vegetarian means or something?
I do love cottage cheese I also eat alot of ricotta also very high in protein.
I hate whey protein powder because of the consistency when mixed as directed but I have found tossing in a few teaspoons with yogurt and I don't even notice. Never forget Peanut butter provided you aren't allergic or Almonds any nuts really.
Beans of any variety are excellent myself I prefer cannellini beans and black beans.
Go Lean Cereal is tasty and has 13 grams per cup . Also have you ever tried boca burgers? They also have 13 grams of protein per burger. That is the original vegan ones. I am not vegan I am an ova lacto..hence the cottage cheese and ricotta ...obviously :)
Food is one of those things people can be very fussy about myself included try something new and keep what you like.
Another way to incorporate whey protein powder into your diet (or soy protein powder if you're vegan) is to mix it with oatmeal! I make oatmeal using water and add a little extra water (hot, of course) when it's done, and then stir in half a scoop or maybe a whole scoop of vanilla whey protein, and it tastes like I made the oatmeal with milk! Yum.
YES!
The oatmeal trick is a good one too! Now you made me want some oatmeal! I haven't had any since the weather got warm I'm thinking now fall is here and it's about that time!
Thanks guys! I got some cottage chees..what does everyone usually mix it with? I cant eat cottage cheese plain just like that..ewww. I also bought whey protein powder and mixed it in my smoothie this morning, it was great!
I eat cottage cheese with dark olives, olive oil, tomato and basil. You could probably mix it with something else and eat on bread or as pancake filling, I guess.
