Need a Protien recipe.

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, Ive recently started gaining weight (Gained about 15-20 lbs during the summer) and am wanting to weigh 170 or so at the end of the year maybe more. I currently weigh 145 lbs and am looking for a drink or food recipe to make with common ingredients found in a household. I find that protien powders and drink mixes that I buy from the store dont work for me. If anyone has any advice or recipes feel free to post it is most appreciated. Thanks

what do you mean "don't work" in terms of protein powders? what do you expect them to do? after a certain point, about 1 gram per pound of bodyweight, excess protein become ineffective and essentially pointless. it's better to eat more whole grains to sustain activities like weight lifting in combination with eating enough protein.

so...have an 8oz chicken breast chopped into a 2oz serving pasta with 1 tbsp olive oil, 1/2 cup peas and herbs. served with a piece of garlic bread and cup of milk. high cal, healthy, and balanced.

If I understand you correctly...

A protein supplement is not the same as a weight gainer.  My advice would be to head to your local GNC or a similar store and talk to an associate about bulking supplements.

Example: a scoop of my protein powder has 120 calories,  a serving of a weight gainer could easily provide a day's worth of calories.

If you don't want to go that route, then I suggest you stock up on tuna and peanut butter. ;)  Good luck!

I think you should just eat larger portions of real foods like free-ranged red meats, fatty fish (or lean too), whole eggs (and lots of egg whites), chicken, turkey and nuts and seeds.

Other things you should include, healthy fats - olives, olive oil, nuts & seeds as I mentioned, avocados, etc... these really help increase mass as well.

This is one of my favorite high protein recipes:

This is the best, especially when you start getting really bored of eating eggs and chicken breasts.

What are your goals?  Did you know that the body will always use carbs and fat before turning to protein?  Unless you are in deficit of the first two, the extra protein is not going to help.

That being said- If you like sashimi (raw fish) or even think that you might, get 2 lb of raw tuna or salmon from a reputable place like an upscale supermarket.  Dip raw in teriyaki sauce - YUM.    Or put over rice.

If you are trying to gain, I'd say do what I want to do every day!  Take chicken + black beans + tons of avocado or guacamole + stir fry veggies and have a chipotle style fajita burrito!  (whole grain high fiber tortilla or just go without if you please)

What you're saying is that you want to gain 25 pounds in 6 weeks.  Ain't gonna happen.  Instead of setting unrealistic goals, try eating a balanced diet of fresh foods with adequate calories, and exercising appropriately to gain strength and muscle gradually.  You really do need to rethink what you're doing because what you aim to do is quite unhealthy and puts a strain on the heart.
