Ermm...yeah, quick question, im about to go out now so i won't get internet til much later...

I'm wondering, when you exercise, do you need to eat extra that day? Like, say you need 1800-ish and you burn 250 through exercise, does this add on to your requirements? Like, say you take in 2050 for that day; is it technically 1800? I'm not sure what to do because it's quite confusing! I just ask, because on the days when i haven't exercised i still take in the same ish as days when i have...

I think you want Calories in to be 500-700 lower than what you burn for the day.  So if you go burn 500 at the gym - then yes.... you need to eat a bit more to feed your body.

Or so I understand it.

If you used this website to determine the number of calories you need per day to lose weight, you would have entered an activity level.  Any exercise that is not included in that activity level should be entered in the activity log.  The burn meter will show you how many calories you have burned throughout the day.  The eat meter shows the calories you have eaten, if you are logging in all that you eat and the calories are correct.  The difference in those two numbers(burn meter and eat meter) is your calorie deficit for the day.  You need to keep it at about 500 to lose .5 to 1.5 lbs per week.  This is a reasonable weight loss.

You can eat more (something nutritious is best) as long as the daily deficit remains at 500.

Personally, I recorded a sedentary lifestyle when calculating calories needed.  I record any extra exercise and think of it as just extra help to meet my deficit for the day and do not consume a corresponding number of calories.  I am losing about 1.5 lbs. per week, so it is working.

It depends on how you filled out your profile.  Did you fill out your profile o here and get that calorie amount to eat?  If you did, it depends on if you filled out your activity level or not.  If you put yourself as sedentary then you have to eat more, but if you filled out "moderate exercise" or something, than the calculator already took how much you exercise into account.

If you want to lose weight, your intake should be roughly 500-1000 calories less than how much you burn.

If you want to maintain, they should be equal.

If you want to gain, your intake should be more.

thanks

but still a bit confused..sorry.

I think my daily requirements should be around 2000,to maintain(since i am apparently still growing :S) but its not essential right now to lose weight, maybe a couplr pounds. But i just wondered - on these online calculators how do you know what your fitness is like? I mean, I do exercise, but oher than tht, i don't have an active job or anything...sometimes it says i need 2000 sometimes 1700....
sorry - my last post was a bit confusing - let's rephrase that...

Should I just assume a "sedentary/lightly active" lifestyle on the days i don't exercise? Or does it mean all week i am "moderately active" because of the exercise in total?
