Do i need to seek medical treatment? please help! depressed and bingeing

Quote  |  Reply
I am afraid I have binge eating disorder...

Recently there has been some problems in my family and I felt really depressed. Yesterday I was so depressed, alone and sad that I grabbed everything sweet from my snack cupboard and finished them in 1 go. I think I had eaten like 4000 kcals in one go. I thought tomorrow is a new day, but then..! Today... I was craving chocolates badly, and I thought, "hey since everyone says I need to gain back a little weight, why not splurge on 3500kcals in one go?" then I started binging again. I had 3 pieces of Lindt chocolate, 4 brownies, 1 packet of mini monster munches, 1 mini boost bar, 6 pieces of cookies, 2 mini chocolate eclairs, 2 mini jelly cups, aroudn 1 cup of mini marshmallows, 1 mini box of raisins, 1 cup of full fat milk, 1 fun size mars bar, half a packet of instant oatmeal. I think that'll be around 4000kcals again!!

I know I was binging and I was really full when I was halfway done with my binge- but I just lost control and ate and ate and ate. Now I am so full that I feel like my stomach is going to burst in any moment! I'm really afraid this cycle will go on and on, and very soon I am sure I will soon turn to OVERWEIGHT again from underweight. Can anyone advise me what I should do?

Should I try to compensate for this extra 4000kcals by eating less in the coming few days, or just continue to eat normally, back to 1400kcals a day? I feel so bad and guilty now... please help!

Well yes you can try to eat fewer calories today or simply resume to eating a normal 1400 cals today but that still won't solve the problem of emotional eating. You said you binged because you felt really depressed..that to me would suggest that getting some help wouldn't hurt you. In the mean time just take a deep breath and relax. What's done is done, put it behind you and move on.
The last 2 days I too have eaten so much that I probably consumed well over 4K cals each day.  As long as you didn't purge or take laxatives it probably isn't an eating disorder - but I would maybe do a search online for support.  I know stress makes me eat - also boredom.

I would just try to keep your calories to a good level from now on and maybe go for a walk or something when the urge to eat comes on.

Go back to your normal routine.  If you were to try and cut yourself short to make up for it then you are only setting yourself up for a binge again.
People have rough days.  If you are female it could just be your cycle coming on.  Hang in there hun.  Learn your lesson.  Realize you had a bad two days and continue life like normal.
Dont beat yourself up.  We've all been there.  ((((hugs)))
How old are you? I agree, we all have bad days, but if you know you ate like that because you were depressed....there may be an underlying issue. Talk to someone you trust. Seeking support here is a good idea too! You are always bound to run into someone who had dealt with the same issues.
I am 18 years old, going to be 19 in 2 months time...

this is the first time that I've really binged such a large amount of food... and i know this is something really stupid to ask, when will the weight show on my scale? I just want to know how great this 2 consecutive binging episodes has done to my weight... Anyone got the same experience with me and what happened to your weight afterwards? What did you do? Did you really just continue with your normal routine or did something else?
Two days of binging will likley show little or no increase on your scale assuming you stop now.
well carie i'm glad to hear that, but just curious- so where does the extra calories go if my weight doesn't increase ???
If you have deprived yourself of food in the past and the over eat a couple days the calories might actually help you lose weight by speeding up the metabolism and stoking the internal fires and giving your muscles the energy they need to work properly.

I ate so much the last few days and sure the scale shows a 1/2 lb gain each day but I also know about the day after I stop overeating and drink alot of water that extra weight will be gone again.

i had 3 days of bingeing this week at about 3000 calories each and now i have been eating under 1000 calories for 4 days to make up for it and it worked i lost more weight than before i binged. i guess sometimes bingeing is your bodys way of telling you to eat more but im gonna start eating normally when i go on holiday this week but hopefully i dont gain anythink =S just wanted 2 look good in that bikini thats all heheh
