I need some serious help

Quote  |  Reply

I did it again, I eat almost everything you can imagine. I swear I had 3 cups of cereal, Around 40 animal crackers 1 and 1/2 cup of frozen yogurt 13 Wheat thins, 9 Dorito's, 2 Banana's, an Apple, 2 Chips ahoy chocolate chip cookies, a 1 and half straw berry short cup cake things, around a half of cup of sugared strawberrys, A ton of whipcream, A little bit of chocolate and maybe 2 tbsp's of peanut butter. Before all that I was doing just fine D; For breakfast I had a yogurt and a banana like I always do, it was filling. For lunch I had a fruit smoothie which also filled me up. And then for dinner I had all that above D; This has been happening to me a lot lately I don't know why. I can control myself when other people are around but when I am home alone like this I say I am just going to have a bite of this.....and then it turns into all that. I have never had this problem before. Ever sence I started dieting food is the only thing thats been on my mind and its been on my mind a lot lately. Can someone help me with this issue? I want to loose weight so badly, and I have. Just lately I don't know whats wrong with me. I think I just gained a pound or two this week. :/ Can someone tell me whats wrong with me?

Where's the protein and fiber in your breakfast and lunch?

There's protein in bananas and fruit aha :D

I think it's because you aren't eating a balanced breakfast and lunch.  Maybe you should try having a piece of ww toast with a little pb along with your bfast and maybe a cup of brown rice or some other whole grain with your lunch.  Most of your calories from bfast and lunch come from fruit sugars and those are not filling at all.

you obviously dont eat enough! that use to happen to me, when i dont eat enough during the day...i binge at night!

how many calories are you consuming daily?!? (seems like you're only eating fruit and yogurt)

UP YOUR CALORIE INTAKE! :)

hope that helps

I ussually do have a nice sandwhich with some carrots for lunch. I just went out and got a smoothie with some friends today so and it ended up bed around 400 calories so I decided that would count as lunch.

I ussually do eat enough during the day and even when I am full I just start to think of my next meal I am going to eat. I don't know what to do. Food is making me go CRAZY. D;

We always like doing what we are not supposed to (self-sabotage).  All I know is that the more I exercise the less cravings I have had.  I also drink a herbal tea aimed primarily at cravings.  Sugar is addictive.  It takes a while to get away from it.

I'm really new here, so maybe I'm totally off-base, but it seems like you know exactly how much you binged on.  I know when I binge, I basically black out for 15 minutes and then can't really remember, or force myself not to remember, how much I ate.  Maybe if you feel a binge coming, taking a few minutes a decide to make a substantial meal with carbs and protein!  I know it's easier said than done, but you seem to have enough control to measure out and/or count the food during your binge, so take advantage of that!

you COUNTED how many doritos and animal crackers you ate? You have an eating disorder.

Darkbeam I can quite relate!  Although I have found having a poached (microwaved) egg on a piece of toast very filling for breakfast. The protein and carbs are just right and keeps me happy [read: no mental cravings at all] until at least 10:30-11:00am and I usually have lunch around 11:30 anyway - I can set the clock by when I feel hungry for lunch.  Which is all well and good and noble up until here.  And then the afternoon, particularly when at work DRRRAAAAAAGGGGSS.  I mean Ddrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggggggggggssss ssssssssssssssssss and so I start eating to keep myself interested in something more than wanting to skewer my fellow office sharer's hands with a letter opening or ballpoint to stop her bashing the **** out of her keyboard with her pudgy, work-to-rule, oh-so-totally-not-into-cruising-the-net or looking at her cellphone hands.  She is rather a "portly" woman and she drives me insane and makes me want to eat to feel better.   AND if I manage to get through the afternoon by having a good snack of light yoghurt and a banana with a few dark chocolate sprinkles (have to have chocolate in there LOL) I'm fine until Dinner time ... and then it starts.  After dinner and after son is in bed ... the trek to and from the pantry, the fridge, the lounge and OOOH AN AD-BREAK, hmm, what's in the pantry, oh, he'll never miss one of his ricie bars for his lunch box the next day and it IS chocolate and small and half filled with air in the rice snaps and, and, and ...

Darkbeam, I have been seriously trying resistance training - that is RESISTING FOOD - and it is HARD.  I succeed one or two days and then fail, but I figure achieving even one or two days is better than failing 7 in a row!  So, maybe get some yummy corn thins (we have lovely crisp ones with soy and linseed and they're MOREISH to the MAX) and thin spread a little p/butter on them, or light cottage cheese or a bit of tasty meat paste or cheese spread.  A little goes a long way and they're so thin that if you try to overload them they simply crumble and then you're left with a pile of sticky crumbs which upsets you so much you just HAVE to have that brownie LOL ...

Dunno if this helps?  You can always PM me if you like and we can try to figure a way around this munching.  I've achieved before and this time with CC I'm Determined to Achieve again, but it's a daily challenge.

I understand the knowing exactly what you're bingeing on but not being able to stop, you are taught to count after all it becomes second nature. After logging my food for a long time I found a pattern (in my eating) of good, good, good, binge, good, good, good, binge and the subsequent reason (for me) was I was super restrictive (but not necessarily low cal) just thinking too much about food and interestingly I wasn't getting enough protein.

Two things that helped me; protein at every meal ( I always have string cheese, turkey slices and boiled eggs in the fridge ), a very small amount helps (like 1 ounce) and if I feel a binge it's usually ONE thing I'm looking to satiate. So I take one SMALL bite of whatever I think it is and if that's not it, I toss it. I know, wasteful, BUT I could binge on a few hundred calories or a few thousand, you do the math.

And just in case someone thinks that's obsessive, I eat 1500 cals a day, more when I train (like 2500) and sometimes saying no just isn't gonna happen.

That's interesting Jett ... I have eggs (have my own two pet chookies so they're truly good healthy psychodelic yellow-yoked eggs LOL), don't get turkey as readily here in NZ as I used to when State-side and string cheese?  What do you call string cheese.  I remember getting string cheese in the states but don't know what to call it here?  Is it like Mozzarella or similar?

What training are you doing or into?  My BIG problem at the moment (sorry to hijack your thread Dark-beam) is not getting the time to work out or exercise.  I usually have jobs in which I'm quite busy on my feet which takes the place of "working out" as I also have horses at home.  I'm currently in a very sedentary role and am about to move to a more active on my feet role which will help but in the meantime, what would you substitute the turkey with and where would you find "string" cheese.  Also, sometimes I have (or should I say USED to have) sliced low fat ham instead of turkey, but found that it was filled with all those sulphates and preservatives, etc, and would give me really bad wind and gut ache and sometimes the runs.  Suggestions?

i know what its like. i work all day, cant eat much so at 11 pm i binge go to sleep, binge again. wake up and start over, but also i workout alot so it hasnt effected me.

I second the protein statement; whenever I'm having massive cravings, just a need to eat even though I don't actually feel hungry, I go for protein.  Chicken breast, sliced deli turkey, boiled eggs, beans, a handful of peanuts, and I always feel better about ten minutes afterwards.

What i've found helps is to add a couple snacks into your day so when you get to your next meal you aren't overly hungry, but are just beginning to feel like you want to eat again.  Also, try planning your dinner.  If food is on your mind a lot use that to your advantage.  Find a great delicious sounding healthy recipe that fits in your calorie goals then plan when you are going to make it, make a big deal of getting all the ingrediants and so on, and during the day when you think about food direct yourself to looking forward to it.  Then when dinner comes along make the awesome recipre you've been looking forward to having all day and take a while to eat it, really enjoying it.  For myself at least i've found i don't have any cravings after doing this.  It also helps to choose a dinner with a lot of protein and fiber to fill you up more.

ok,,,I just read the post and everyone's replies.  THANK YOU!!!
I only started CC a few days ago, but SOOO relate to the doing well and then almost zoning out and needing to eat anything and everything and not being able to stop.  Ugh.
Anyway,,,I'm gonna go and boil some eggs to keep in the fridge and gonna also try a slice of turkey/some nuts when I'm freaking out.

Thanks so much!!
Robin

i have been fighting this for awhile now and here are some things that help me, i have been getting better :)

1. drink a hot cup of tea when you feel like bingeing. it takes a good15 minutes at least to boil the tea, fix it to your liking, and sip it. after this long, i always think "thank God i did not binge and am having this cup of tea instead, i saved my entire day!" also, the hot tea fills me up, i think all hot liquids are supposed to help give you that full feeling.

2. don't be too restrictive on your diet. when i am overly restrictive, it always ends badly, meaning with a binge. whether it is in 3 days or 3 weeks, it does eventually happen i think because this whole cycle is unnatural for our bodies. they say you can retrain yourself to eat with just your hunger cues, which is what i have been trying. supposedly the total process of "training" and losing the weight could take a year or 2. i don't really need to lose weight, so i am trying it. i have made significant progress in just a few weeks. i binge much less than i did 3 weeks ago, and when i binge, its on much less-i can always stop myself before eating to the point of feeling sick, i never eat 2 days worth of calories anymore. idk how bad your bingeing is, but mine would get up to 3000+ cals before, which is hard on the tummy. i haven't eaten 3000 calories in weeks, whether in one sitting, or spread out throughout the day. :)

3. Let yourself have little indulgences. as in junk food. if you REALLY want something, eat it. do the best you can each time, try not to overdo it, and enjoy it! after saying no so many times, i always find eventually i go nuts. i have little treats everyday or every other day and am now able to control myself around junk and sweets much more.

Also believe in yourself and never give up! each little step is progress. and try not to feel too guilty b/c i know for me that usually lead to more bingeing in the future. ok i hope this helps a little because this problem totally sucks and is so frustrating. Good luck!

Sounds like your restricting your food too much!

Weightloss is about increasing your metabolisum.  Not starving yourself.

You should eat more calaries a day spread it accross 5 meals.

I eat around 1700 a day on average.

breakfast 300

Lunch 400

Dinner 700

2- 3 Snacks 300

A good size dinner will remove these extra cravings. A good mix of carbs/fats/protiens 60/20/20 % or 50/20/30 %

plus drink lots of water.

ive been doing this for a few weeks and ive already seen a big differance. Some days I find its more about making sure im eating enough and not the usuall eating too much.

I had a pizza night last week 2500 calories in that day, and still hit my weight loss target for the week. Balance is the key.

If you eat a 300calorie chocolet bar every day for lunch thats 2100 calaries a week.. thats a whole days worth of food.

Eat more food but make sure its the right food to fill you up.. i could eat a mcdonalds and still be hungry after 1000 odd calories, or i could have a healthy veg/prawn sturfry and eat loads and have half the calories

Good Luck

Its really not polite to brand people like that. You should think about what you say before you accuse people of having eating disorders. You could be doing more harm then you think.

Protein-wise, string cheese is like mozza, but really any preportioned kid snack cheese will do (as long as it's 100% real cheese) they tend to be around 100cals a serving.  Turkey or chicken I get fresh slices from the deli (no sulphates or salt and additives) or to save money broil/boil some chicken and slice it for sandwiches, again about the portion size for me (not a meal more of a supplement to a meal).  I'm not looking to make a sandwich just get some extra protein (on top of the sandwich I ate for lunch! haha)

Training, I race bikes and run so I burn a lot of calories.  I started out slow, couldn't run a block to save my life but now I run long cross country races, mountain bike and race duathlons.  I'm slow but tenacious!  I have my first 25km (just over half marathon) mountain goat race coming up this fall!

If I had horses I would ride every day!  That and mucking stalls must burn tonnes!  What I had to learn was that just because I was active didn't mean I could eat a lot more.  It's easy to say I ran an hour so I can eat a whole extra meal, it doesn't quite work out the same.  And forget it if you DON'T train one day, that extra appetite doesn't go away so you still want extra calories that you haven't burned.
