I think I need to start keeping my PB under lock and key!

Seriously, I think I just can't buy peanut butter.  I have such a hard time only eating one serving in a day!  I hadn't bought it for a while, and then I figured I'd be okay with it around...  But I've eaten 600 cals (6 tbsp) of peanut butter today! I don't know why I can't leave it alone.  :(  I'm going to go to the gym and work away my peanut butter butt now.

Why can't I have this problem with something like cucumbers or water?  :-p

Maybe I should buy peanut butter, portion it into 2-3 tbsp portions, get drunk, and hide it all over the place, so I can only eat it when I find a portion.  At least then I'd get some exercise while I'm looking for it.


Does anyone else have a problem like this, and is there anything you do (besides not buying PB or whatever food) to resist it?

you should try "better n peanut butter" it has only 2g of fat, no oils like regular peanut butter, only 2 g of sugar  and 2 tablespoons is 100 calories. it is like a miracle food. i love peanut butter just like you. and im addicted to better n peanut butter and it is healthy and i dont feel guiltyCool

Perhaps you could get your protein from something un-addictive like tofu for a while.  Don't buy PB for a couple of months would be my advise.....

i had the same problem and i literally had to "sabotage" it and throw it away...i stopped buying it for a while until i felt i could control myself with it

I could give you bad advise.. eat it until your tired of it. Like go thru the biggest tub of pb in the shortest amount of time.. I was that way with marshmellow fluff. I finaly just ate an entire jar of it one day.. felt conpletely sick.. and now I can't even think about eating it.. or anything made with it. :(

 

Um. If you like creamy only buy chunky... If you like chunky only buy creamy... That actually might offset you from over doing it. Unless you love both equally.

I all ~ I am a PB junkie too! I will admit to that. I love it!!!! Spoon fulls with a glass of cold milk!!!! Count me in! I did switch to the Natural kind but I seem to love that too! I am going to get the " Better n ?" the one that was talked about above. I think that is why I am trying to loose the weight because I would get up at night and eat a big spoonfull and go back to bed. I havnt done that in a while but the other night I just had too! I just love it! So I feel your pain too~ I dont want to give it up either but cant find out how not to eat it. If I dont buy it ~ I just make a trip to town and get it but maybe not anymore with gas prices the way they are.

Overeating it is a funny idea, but I don't think I could ever get sick of it, seriously.  I guess I'll just have to boycott peanut butter and reintroduce it when I'm closer to maintenance.  I like the creamy almost as much as the crunchy, so that probably wouldn't help.  I've heard of the "better 'n peanut butter" from hungry-girl, but I have yet to try it, because it's expensive.  Maybe if I can make this jar of regular PB last until the next time I go to the store, I'll let myself try that as a treat. :)

my weakness too! i finally found a store that ordered me a box of single serving 1TB tubs. just like you advised. at least then i have to REALLY think about the calories i am consuming and i almost always just have one serving. before i would get one heaping big spoon and figure that was "bout a serving" ya right!

YES! I am exactly like that! I DID stop buying it becasue it finally got into my head that P-nut butter was what was keeping me on a plateau. Once I got over it (almost) I started losing again. But, like you, I thought I could handle having one tiny little jar at home----------WRONG! It is like an addictive drug almost. I didn't go through the jar really fast, but has  emptied faster than I expected. So, what i plan now is to only eat p-b at someone else's house---my mom's or my daughters, that way I at least get a taste once in a while!

I even tried the PB2 I heard about on CC, but it is so gaggy that I threw it out-expensive as it was!

When I was still dieting I used to go to the store that had a grind-your-own PB machine when I had a PB craving and I'd fill up a to-go salad dressing container with it and sneak out of the store. It's like 1.5 ounces, and when you really want some PB you can go get it and not worry about eating an entire jar. Plus, you'll be sure that you really want it if you have to go all the way over to the store to get it.

Now I just make sure that I always allow myself 1-2 ounces for breakfast everyday, and after a month of doing this I don't sneak to the fridge anymore just to eat spoonfulls at 10 in the morning. I love having it as a regular part of my diet. Sometimes I make myself eat it even if I'm not craving it because I know that the next day I'll want it even MORE and I might go overboard.

Hey there... I've just received my first ever order of "Better N Peanut Butter". To be honest, my advice is to save your money!! It's lower in calories and fat, sure, but doesn't taste like peanut butter at all! It's actually a bit gross... Of course that's just my 2 cents... ;o)

What has worked for me so far has been to simply "go off" peanut butter every other month. Not sure why, but now when I do have a jar, I don't binge on it. Somehow being able to go for stretches at a time without any (but knowing I will buy it again) has taken the "edge" off my craving for it. Now I can have one slice of bread with 1 tbsp. and actually stop at that! I still love it, but I don't feel "over powered" by the jar in the cupboard, you know?

i feel your pain! whenever i buy a jar, i eat the entire thing in one sitting. this is predominantly because i discovered the peanut butter co. which makes the most scrumptious PB ever. . . just thinking about it makes me drool! i'm in australia right now for a month, where they don't have that brand (a curse and a blessing).

maybe you should only have it when others are around? i know i personally could never eat an entire jar in front of other people (i'd probably be pretty judged). also, try eating with a fork instead of a spoon. it encourages smaller bits and hopefully you'll feel full up quicker!

fellow pb addict here Smile!  I have to eat a serving every single day and there are some days it is hard to stick to that.  I have found that if I portion out a serving and put it in a little container that it helps a lot.  It also keeps me from eating the whole serving at one time that way I can stretch it throughout the day if I would like.  I have been on a pb rampage lately making pb cookies and deserts but it is just too good to cut out.

i have this problem with cheese and marinated tofiul havent gotten it under control yet

...marinated tofu? It just sounds like you want protein and salt. go salt!

hehehe. i might - next time the tofu haunts me - try to have vegetables with soya sauce instead, and it might help! thing is, the brand of marinated tofu i am buying is really tasty, so i suspect it might also be just a craving for something i find extra yummy, but i will try this strategy - every little helps:)

Ka, I don't think I gave you an actual strategy! If you ask me, you should go to the store and buy marinated tofu and put it in everything for as many days as it takes for you to get tired of it. Who cares if your nutrition might be a little more protein-y than usual, a couple days won't kill you. I'm doing that with beans right now and it's so much better than denying myself beans and trying to replace them with baby carrots. I've also had to do it with peanut butter, and boy am I sure glad I don't crave it like I used to anymore.

Peanut butter is bad for me too! But not as bad as Nutella! Once I start with it, I normally pig out on it. I try to keep it out of the house just for that reason.
