Hello to all... I'm a 27 yr old mother of two (8 yrs & 16 Mths) and a wife to one(thank god). I just started a diet with only consuming 1200 calories a day ,while drinking (10) 8oz bottles of water, and walking 1 to 1 1/2 miles (at a fast pace) 5 days per week. I also do some light weight lifting for my upper body and legs, and sit-ups.
&nb sp; I weight 230 pounds at 5'8. My goal is to lose the 60 pounds I gained while pregnant with my son. I'm a stay at home mom so I'm pretty busy running aroung all day, cooking, cleaning, playing, and singing my a,b,c,s . My problem is I crave sugar..I love to eat anything with sugar,Is there anyone out there who can give me some pointers on how to get rid of the sugar craving without eating candy or cake.

I have had very good success with a diet high in whole foods from Plant sources -- whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables. It has totally kicked my stress eating, cravings, and binge eating.
I believe Nature gave us a sweet tooth on purpose, so we would want the foods that provide excellent nutrition.
Eating a lot of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables is especially important on a 1200 calorie diet -- to ensure that you get excellent nutrition.
Dr. Furhman, author of Eat to Live, recommends 1 lb of raw vegetables and 1 lb of cooked vegetables every day, plus 4-5 fruits. I personally find it difficult to eat 1 lb of raw per day, but I am working towards that as a goal.
For whole grains, be sure you read the labels. A lot of bread is advertised as "whole wheat" when it is still a processed food.
Best wishes for great success in your efforts to lose weight.

I find the more I eat sugar, the more I crave it. If I eat something sweet, like ice cream, then I just want more!
But the less I regularly eat it, the less I want it. If I eat a lot of healthy things, then I'll think of them when I'm hungry instead. It might help to try reaching for naturally sweet things, like an apple, raisins, or sweet peppers instead of refined sugars. I wish it wasn't easier said than done!

I have a sweet tooth the size of the county I live in and it's the biggest county in the US!
Anyhow, when I started dieting, I knew that I would set myself up for failure if I gave up sugar and lived on fruits and veggies. I stopped eating chocolate bars, cake, and cookies to an extent. What I did was I started with the Nabisco 100 calorie pack cookies and allowed those into my allowed intake. I also purchase fat free frozen yorgurt and some chocolate covered altoids. I allow myself a snack at night when I am done for the day, with the kids, dog, and chores. I relax and enjoy my treat. I try never to eat it in the afternoon, I make it the last thing I eat and I make sure I do not over indulge. So far, I have lost 20 pounds!
I should mention that most of my other calories are made up with whole grains, veggies, and fruit. I also eat lean meats, but usually not over 3-4oz.
I also still have my 2 cups of coffee in the morning with 2 tsp of sugar, messured and 1/2 tsp of cream.
Hope this helps.

yeah, the best way not to eat sugar is to stop eating it. Cutting out fruit juices will help, but if you must have candy, I suppose you could get some fun-size candy bars and keep them around, so you don't eat a huge candy bar. I avoid cake at all costs, because I know I can't control myself if I eat it. If you can cut out foods with hidden sugars, that should help too, like high-carb stuff.
Congrats on your routine : ) drinking lots of water is good, but on days you exercise, make sure you eat back your calories. Believe it or not, you'll lose weight faster that way.

Frozen fruit is amazing. I have a real problem just before bed when I'm relaxing and reading. Instead of popping chocolates into my mouth like there's no tomorrow, I now suck on frozen fruit. I especially like frozen cherries and blueberries..very sweet.
Agreed. Fruit. Strawberries are the best. I find cooking fruit makes it better. So cooked apple chunks (microwave) or apple sauce (NAS) heated up.
Fruit.
Fruit.
FRUIT!!
nothing beat a sweet juicy mango, succuent grapes, or a tropical pinapple.

I personally hate fruits and LOVE sweets and chocolate. I've found Luna bars to be a nice substitute, while being extremely nutritional as well. Check out the Luna bars, the come in tons of flavors. Something is bound to satisfy your craving.
There are often mineral/electrolyte imbalances that cause or worsen sugar handling issues, including sugar cravings. Chromium can help take the edge off of the craving. Brewer's yeast is a good source of chromium. You can add it to salads or into cereals or other foods with very little change in taste. Hope this helps.
not nthat i know alot about it, but i saw this on oprah. apparenly sugar makesyour body not hear the signal that you are full.
so for 20 days i have no sugar and even few fruits. diet 7 up and sweet and low actually satisfy and coz i am not havind sweets, i dont crave them. i still love my fruit but im sure that fructose is not as bad as sucrose. i dont know if it is true, but i have been told that 1 teaspoon of honey of carob mollasses satisfies wihout making you want more.
hey if you are working hard all daythen no wonder your body needs aboost of energy.
i found that eating b4i was really hungry helped coz i didnt get to the point that i had cravings.

I know it sounds odd but when I crave sugar I eat protein. The more sugar/carbs I eat the more I want. Try it, it may work for you too.
I read somewhere on the net that eating the opposite of what you want (specifically spicey when you crave sweet) helps curb the craving, so when I get a mondo sweet craving I pull out the salsa, have a little bit (counting all the cals of course) and that actually does seem to help, oddly enough.
