I need suggestions for buying a scale!

Quote  |  Reply

I do not have a scale and am wanting to buy one. I have been going to the doctor for other health reasons every week for the past month and they weigh me their and I have also be weighing myself at my mothers and the weight diffrence is about 5-7 lbs. The doctors office uses a digital and my mom has the one with the dial.. i guess that is what it's called. We always check to make sure the lines are lined up and they are. My mother says she is having the same problem when she goes to weight watchers. Her scale will be 5-7 lbs off than theirs. I weigh more at the doctors office than at her house. The doctors visits are between 8-8:30 so faily early. I am done with the weekly visits and have been using their weight as my current weight.. "it's higher than hers by 5-7lbs" lol So I am not sure if I should trust her scale. Her scale friday had me at 234 and the dr 240.

I would get a digital one, just because I prefer being able to read a number than having to decipher which line it is on.

Scales will vary, but if you get one and you use it constantly you will be able to track your progress.

Also, your weight is going to fluctuate depending on what you have eaten, what you are wearing....etc.

I got mine at walmart and I haven't had any problems with it. I check to make sure it is right (every now and then) by weighing a 5lbs medicine ball that I have....if it weighs in at five pounds then that is a good sign. You could try something like this with your mom's scale, and see what happens.

If her scale is 7 pounds less than the doctor's scale, and also 7 pounds less than the scale at weight watchers, obviously it's time to bin it because it's useless. Digital scales tend to be a lot more accurate, and it doesn't really matter if you get a super-expensive scale or a cheapy. I got a Homedics scale for thirty dollars and it's within a pound of the doctor's scale, which is good enough for me...

Thank you so much!Laughing I was really leaning towards a digital because I can read it and the dial one is so hard to read.. I am going to Target & Walmart tomorrow and I will check them out.

Thanks again!

Oh I got my scale yesterday at Target.  :)

I got the Conair "Weight Watchers" digital scale that also tracks other shmancy stuff like bone density, body fat percentage, and bmi (the fiance loves his gadgets).   It displays to one-tenth of a pound and looks pretty attractive in the bathroom which are the only two things I care about at this point.  It's tempered glass and chome-lookin accents and includes a long-life lithium battery.  I think it also stores data for up to ten users.

I got my digi-scale from Target for $9.48. If you check the end caps; they usually have a few nice digital scales on clearence. I'm very happy with mine.

Get a digital - mechanical ones suck big time.

However, remember that you'll get different readings on different scales. So when you compare results, use the same scale.

I've got a digital one and unless the batteries die, it works great

i just got one of those Taylor Model #7303 "Biggest Loser" Scales from AMAZON dot COM and it came with a FREE Biggest Loser Workout DVD... and --- (free shipping for over $2500) Laughing   its GREAT!  nice Big Read Out!  it was about $25...  then me & hubby went to Walmart this weekend and saw one just like it for about $20...  they are really cool...!  real thin and wide - with a nice BIG read out screen!

WOW thank you so much! I have never been so excited about getting a scaleLaughingI am heading out here in a little bit. I will let you know what I end up with.

Have a GREAT Day!!

make sure you get one that can self-calibrate.  i've seen many, many complaints around here from people who say that they can step on their scales twice in a minute and get two different readings.  a scale that self-calibrates will adjust when it gets moved, when the temperature changes, etc.

I have a digital read-out scale and it inaccurate. It can be several pounds off in either direction.  I never know for sure how I am doing because of this.  Time to buy a new one!

I have this scale:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KK02X0

It's a great deal and makes it so much easier to track how my body composition is changing!  I love it!

Well I am having a similar issue with scales between work and home. Scale at work is digital but has me 5 lbs heavier thatn the one at home (also digital).  The one at home reads my 10lb weight as 10lbs so it should be fine.  Yesterday I had my once a week weigh in at work it was 204.4 (at noon) and the one at home was 199.0 (at 6pm) which should I believe?

Well I got a digital at Walmart. It is a Health O Meter! U can program 2 users and it will track your weight. Now the problem.. I weighed 240 at the dr's office last thurs and today the scale I bought says I weigh 234.4lbs I dont know if I should trust it or not. I want to trust it.. It has been 5 days since my visit so I possibly could have lost weight. What do u think?
