Need suggestions - Looking for a new recipe book
Claire and anyone else who can help me out, I'm looking for some suggestions. K and I are really bored with our current recipe books and we want something to help us come up with quick and easy and HEALTHY recipes, including meat.
Crock Pot books are acceptable, as are books that just suggest relatively quick and easy recipes.
Can you help us out? :)
Thanks!

Well it's not a book it's a magazine subscription. Taste Of Homes Light and Tasty. It has the best recipes, main dishes, meats, desserts, salads. And it has no advertisements. Just recipes, recipes, recipes and pictures of the meals....I definately recomend it (sorry can't spell) There is also a Taste of Home website is it ok to post that on here? www.lightandtasty.com website is free.
I promoted this cook on another thread, so I apologize to anyone who doesn't like repeats, but I recently discovered Jill Dupleix and have been gathering up her recipes. She is a cook from Australia who has a bunch of interesting, sometimes exotic, and usually health-conscious recipes. She has some cookbooks that I haven't seen in person yet, but there are some google videos and recipes on her website.

I have several that I love. Lately we have been using a lot of Cooking Light recipes - I subscribe to the magazine, but you can also get all their recipes online at www.cookinglight.com. They have a section called Dinner Tonight (see the bottom left of their page) with relatively fast/easy recipes. Everything we've tried has been awesome - it helps that most of the recipes are rated online, with user comments and everything. Another benefit - you can see the ingredients from anywhere...no need to go home to check the cookbook before running to the store after work to pick up the last ingredients!
I also use Cooking for Two (or Just You) and use various recipes in it. It's great for not having leftovers.
The American Heart Association Low Calorie Cookbook is also great.
I got the Joy of Cooking for Christmas, too. It is so full of information!

I have never found a cookbook with so many recipes that are "hits" as with my Better Homes and Gardens "New Dieter's Cookbook"! A friend of mine owned it and I borrowed it one time and LOVED it and so bought myself a copy. This was back in the early '90s, but they do still make it (newer versions). I would try to get my copy if you can (eBay or elsewhere?). The copyright is 1992. I KNOW, the LIBRARY!!!! There are recipes I this book that I make over and over again.
Just found this website too. It looks promising and has some great search utility refinement options.

My most often used cookbooks are James Beard's American Cookery, The Best Recipe, published by America's Test Kitchen, and the Martha Stewart cookbooks. However these don't fit your need of low calorie, healthy recipes. I modify them myself.
I like Cooking Light. I've never had one of their recipes fail.

I just had another thought. Why not get a subscription to Cooking Light instead of a cookbook? That way you'd have new recipes every month.
That's what SydtheKyd suggested. I'll check out the page when I can and see if I like it :)
I recently bought Sandra Lee's Semihomeade Lite book. It has quite a few really good recipes. But, I would not recomend any of her other books.
I use this site! (Free)! It's very good. You can make your account and collect what ever recipes you like. It has many ideas too. I like the fact that you can put your own serving count in and will automatically calculate the ingredients. It also creates a shopping list! I don't even use a cook book anymore. This is all I need. Hope it helps! Here it is.

I love Betty Crocker's Low Fat Low Cholesterol Cookbook. Lots of pictures (a must for me). Quick, simple, easy recipes. I've tried many and am impressed.
Also, to a lesser degree, Meals In Minutes by the American Heart Association. I like that all of the meals are created to be quick and with relatively few ingredients but are still tasty and good for you. My biggest drawback with this one is that there are no pics and I have made a few recipes using this one that I might not make again.

Although not 'diet' cookbooks, I find Sally Schneider's 'A New Way to Cook' and Rick Bayless 'Mexican Everyday' adapt really well to the new lifestyle.
Schneider's new one (the Improvisational Cook) is good, but doesn't focus on healthier recipes as much.

Fresh Food Fast by Peter Berley and Melissa Clark.
Specializes in seasonal fresh food without too much time. Very health oriented and instructional. Sets up order of operations... This is one of my favorite cookbooks.

Recipezaar.com is my favorite... It's soooo incredible... gives the nutrition info for all the recipes, and you can search by practically a million different things. Anything really. Check it out, definitely.
I use http://allrecipes.com/
sounds similar to radbird191's site.
I search for a recipe that has an ingredient I have on hand and it will come up lots of recipes, along with calories, nutritional contents etc
