Need a support group!! Any busy working mom groups out there?

Quote  |  Reply

I really could use some support in my weight loss journey and I would love to chat with other busy working moms that I may be able to relate to and get tips and inspiration from.  I have a 14 year old and a 4 year old and I get up at 4 am each day to get my butt off to work.  Trying to train for a half marathon and lose 35 lbs along the way.....anybody in my boat who is exhausted and needs some support??!!

humm, I have 3 kids (10,7,2) and I usually roll out of bed at 5:50 am.... but that probably sounds like sleeping in to you!

I'm looking to lose 10 lbs, and was doing well most of the summer, but now... not so much. Today has been my worst day yet. Stupid delicious brownies!

I could use someone to check in with from day to day, but later in the night is the only time I can really get online.

Good luck in your training BTW. Good for you!

Thanks! Sounds like you have your hands full too!  I have been trying to lose this 35-40 lbs for the last year and a half. It's just so hard to stick to eating properly all the time. I've never had such a difficult time, but I blame it on losing and gaining over and over again. My body had had enough!

Oh, yes. My hands are full! When do you have the most trouble eating healthy? For me it's at night. I'm a junk food junkie! Plus I love to bake, and who can resist tasting all those treats?!?

For the most part I eat really well. Tons of fruits and veggies, which is easy for me due to the fact that I'm not a big meat eater. Bleh.

My biggest challenge is at night too. I happen to have an addiction to potato chips and anything sweet too! One thing that I struggle with is being consistent. I will do really well for a couple of weeks and get on the scale and be disappointed(silly, I know), and then I'll go and eat something horrible. Such a cycle!!

Funny, I do the same thing. You would think after seeing an undesireable number on the scale it would keep you from the junkie stuff! Quite the opposite!

On most days I can find a decent substitute for all the junk I can't seem to live without. Like...60 cal chocolate sticks, shakes made from low cal "milk"and ice, sugar free pudding, homemade low cal desserts..etc..

Other days I find myself going for the ever fattening Ben and Jerry's, brownies carrying 600+ calories (oh so good and oh so bad!)

One thing I have tried is pushing back my dessert time. I know all the experts say not to eat late, but if I do a snack at 6:30pm, I will surely have another before bed! So instead I decide what I will have, log it, and then do my house work or whatever until my pre determined snack time. I think it's a good system, when you stick to it!

Do you use the weekends as an excuse ever? I am HORRIBLE for that. I will fall off on Saturday evening and then tell myself that I will start fresh on Monday! I so badly want to stop doing that. It sounds just so simple doesn't it?? Why isn't it easier when we are the ones who make the decsions on what we eat??? I think I love food just so very much!!

Oh yes, only mine is Friday night. Mainly because Fridays are insane at work, and very tiring. So I don't feel like cooking, we eat some pizza or whichever fast food my hubby and kids want, and then I tell myself it's ok, you deserve that brownie, cake, pie whatever junk I am eyeballing that night.

There have been some Fridays where I actually eat my entire days worth of calories for dinner and dessert (1600, well supposed to be=) So I end up well over that 1600 for the day. Which naturally leads to several more bad days, then a few good, then more bad. It really is a terrible cycle!

Well I guess my biggest goal this week is to not do that this weekend...(Yikes) Good luck to us both!!

yes.. good luck to us!

I hope you are having a good week thus far!

I am, doing good on cals and felling better (i had a tummy bug the past 3 days!)

Glad to hear you are feeling better! My week is going good so far, hope yours is too. Besides the tummy bug that is!

Weekend is almost here! I hope you are having a good week. How did you do on cals this week?

I have eaten a million calories today!

The day started well, healthy bfast and lunch... but then .... they were giving me candy at work, as a reward, and I told myself food is not a reward... as I snarfed it down! Then there was the bridge mix I indulged in, the potato soup w/ FULL FAT cheese.

I feel downright terrible about myself right now!

I sometimes look at the overweight women I see and wonder how they do it. To be so heavy, and yet happy with themselves!?! I wish I had a little bit of that going on for me.

Ok, sorry to vent. Just feeling bad, needed to get it out.

I'm not going to let this grow into a few bad days. It will be today only! Tomorrow will be a new day =) wish me luck!

Vent away!!! It helps doesn't it?! I was doing well until lastnight when the cookies called my name.....

There will always be bad days. We can't beat ourselves up over it. You're right, that was yesterday and today is a new day. Start fresh! Good luck to you!

I will need luck as well seeing as it's my best friends birthday and we are going out......arrrhhhgg. Eating out is soooo hard!

Have a fabulous low cal day!!!

Hi there, I have one daughter who is 7 and starting second grade in a week.  I just started a new job after being home with her all summer.  We had fun but think we made too many trips to Dairy Queen, since I gained 10 pounds in three months!  I just seriously started my weight loss regimen and I'm doing the eating small meals every 2-3 hours instead of depriving myself for 5 hours until a major meal time and overeating.  I ultimately want to lose 80 pounds, but I am setting smaller goals, such as losing 5 pounds in two weeks.  I had a great day yesterday but probably derailed myself by going to BK last night for supper.  But as I always say, today is a new day with a clean slate.

One thing I am doing to ensure that my daughter has a healthy body image and good eating habits is to not force her to clean her plate.  If she's full, she pushes her plate away, and I'm okay with that.  I come from a family who encouraged cleaning your plate so most of my family members are overweight.

As of a few days ago my weight was 235 lbs.  I'll be doing my first weigh-in over the weekend, so stay tuned.Smile

Skinnyaw-

Cookies are devilish little things, aren't they?!

A few things I do before eating out... check the web site of where I'll be eating to find out what I can fit into my cals for the day. I make my decision then and there and don't even pick up a menu! It's hard to resist all that greasy and cheesy food, but just think about how much better you feel if you do!

If you don't know where you will be eating, check out a few of the restaurants in the area. Don't be ashamed to make a list and keep it in your bag or on your cell! I have a small list of foods I keep on my cell in the notepad section.

Good luck eating well!!

karenbrunke-

I like the way you are thinking! Those "clean your plate"days are so long gone. What were are parents thinking?

BTW, you can totally eat at BK and keep it lower in cals :) Like a whopper jr. w/o the mayo and ketchup  w/ a side salad and ff ranch is 480 cals. If that doesn't fill you up, eat something at the house later. Some veggies and hummus always fill me up! That way you can have your BK meal and still keep your daily cals reasonable!

Best diet advice I have ever gotten was "you can say yes to the slice of pie, but you need to say no to the whole pie"

haha.

Good Luck!

Sign me up! Although my work hours and wake times don't seems as intense, I am a working single mom of 2 girls.  Ones 3 and the other is 2 weeks shy of a year.  They are a full plate if i ever knew one!! Anyway, my weight goals are to lose 50  lbs and keep it off.  No set date (although CC set one for me of 4/2010) from 170 to 116 (i'm aiming for the 120-125 range) just wanna lose the weight, get some tone and keep my lifestyle set to stay there.  Would love to have some friends/motivators along for the ride.  So since ive never done this... what do i need to do with you all?! HAHA....im a newb!

Well, I went to the fair. Thank goodness it only comes once a year! We spent $16 at the concession stand! Didn't even buy a drink! I'm just glad I don't like cotton candy. I did have a caramel apple =/ terrible I know, but at least it has an apple inside.... or that's what I keep telling myself, lol.

MELROZE2003-

Being a single mom is hard! I know I have a difficult time getting dinner on the table w/ 3 kids and my hubbs help! I couldn't imagine trying to make a healthy meal while chasing around the little ones. I would see many PB&J sandwiches in that situation. Of course I really like those :)

How tall are you, if you don't mind my asking. 116 lbs isn't much to weigh ... gotta stay strong to keep up with the kiddies!

yeah I though 116 wasn't reasonable either.  I'm 5'1" though....and as I said its the figure calcount came up with.  I'm aiming for about 120-125.  Honestly, I just wanna get back to fitting in my pre-pregnancy clothes.  which is a bit bigget than 125.  so my goal is to lose 40-50, and KEEP IT OFF....that's probably where I'm gonna need the most of my motivation.  LOL.....the kids will help I'm sure!

PB&J's are awesome.....we see those almost daily for lunch.  it's fantastic (and they keep me rather full!)

And yes....the apple is definitely worth the caramel (HAHA)....I couldnt imagine spending $16 at a concession stand without drinks.....but I love those fairs!

teressaprincess,

Sorry, had a busy weekend!! I love your ideas on looking up the restaraunts, but sadly I knew exactly where we were going and that was for beer and wings. It's my best friends birthday!! So, I just had one beer and 8 wings, where as in the past I would have had 15-20 wings (yikes!) and at least a coupld of beers!! I also ran 17 Km on Saturday which took me 2 long hours, so I say I deserved those wings and beer!!

karenbrunke,

Welcome!! I completely agree with teressaprincess. The days of cleaning up plates are over. I now have decided that if I fall off my diet I start over at my next meal, becuase I was always saying I'll start over tommorow, or Monday.....!!! It works better for me Wink

melroze2003,

Welcome to you too! I am 5 foot nothin, and I am aiming for about 120 lbs. I know I would feel pretty good at 125 too, but I just want that 120 so bad!

The more friends the merrier I say. We all can use a little motivation and the feeling that someone else "gets it".

Hi everyone,

I had a great weekend!  Saw a movie by myself on Sunday for the first time in a very long time (thanks to my hubby watching my daughter), and I must say I fought the urge to get one of those extra large candies with my diet coke.  Instead I opted for a regular popcorn and a diet coke.  Oil-popped popcorn is worse than air-popped, but it's a much better choice than candy!  I only ate about 1/3 of the bag, and saved myself 500 calories vs. the candy.

Later went to the mall and walked around for about an hour.  Again resisted the incredibly powerful urge to get an Auntie Anne's soft pretzel (sigh) and went into Bath & Body Works instead.  Love the smell of their new fresh scents that are both invigorating and calming.  Reminded me that the next time I go to the beach I don't want to feel like a whale in a bathing suit!

Weighed myself this morning and I am down to 231!

Hope everyone else is doing good as well.

Karen

Hi all,

I hope everyone had a nice day! We Had a pretty good one over here.

Just busy trying to get moved! (only to the house up the street, lol!)

skinnyaw

Sounds like you did a great job to me! I love wings myself! YUM =)

Running totally earns them!

The food list thing is pretty great. On those days I have enough power to say no to the fries... which I like with mayo, btw! It lets me skip cooking, and still keep within my limits!

karen

I'm amazed by your willpower. If I were at the movies alone (3 kids and a hubby make that highly unlikely) I would have given into the candy. That gigantic 4 or 5 serving box would make itself right at home in my belly. Sometimes it's almost like I think if no one sees it, it doesn't count.

melroze

Do you eat the sugar free jellies? I am so in love with the Polaner sugar free seedless red raspberry. At 10 cals a tbsp it's great for days when you'd like something sweet and don't have many calories to spare!

Hope everyone has a great week!
