I need to vent about Jon & Kate

A) Please stop saying that the fame and media attention you've gotten is unsought.  It's not.  You signed on to do a TV show.  TV is media.  And you continue to do the TV show even after the "horrible" stress of the fame has you so pissed.

B) What you are doing to your kids is child abuse.  They are growing up in front of the entire nation from birth... they literally have never not been on TV.  That's alot of pressure.  Young adults that areon reality TV end up with eating disorders and drug addictions b/c of the stress, so what is going to happen when these kids hit puberty (which is pretty soon for the twins)???

C) When asked if the show would continue Kate replied: "The show MUST go one"  Ummm, wh exactly must the show go on if you are so angry about all of the attention you're receiving because of it.

I'm pretty suer they're completely delusional about their lives.

I watched the show, it was okay and the little kids are really cute.  It probably seemed like a good idea at the time to have a reality show; now, I don't think watching a marriage dissolve impacting 8 kids is entertainment, it's just painful to watch and sad for the kids.  I no longer watch it.

I only worry that J&K going away makes space for Octo-Mom.

 oh that would be awful!!!

while i see your point caver...it also brings upon questions of what constitutes exploitation?  those kids are living alot fancier lives now that they're doing the show.  bigger house (hell, mini houses for themselves), trips, etc.

i also like to think that j&k are investing some of the money they're making for their children's futures as well...

To your last point... yeah, I agree.

I only worry that J&K going away makes space for Octo-Mom.

OMG - you're probably right. Although I thin I read that she has a reality TV deal for a channel in Sweden or somewhere like that.

She makes me even more sick than Jon & Kate.  The week her kids were born she said in an interview that her plans to support them was by getting welfare and other government aide, but then with all of the attention she got her new plan was to support them by getting reality tv shows and doing paid interviews.

I think its digusting that you can PLAN to go on welfare.  Welfare is for people to use temporarily while they need it during a rut n their life... until they can get out of it and support themselves.  Octo-mom's kids should all be taken from her.

ha! that bolded part made me giggle! If only! Most people abuse the system and the actual needy people have to bend over and take it. anyone I've ever known on some sort of gov't aide was abusing it.

Kate wants the show to stay on because everything they have is a result of the show - their fancy house, hair plugs, plastic surgery, fancy vacations, book deals, and so on. God forbid they actually have to work for a living like Jon did when they first had the 8 babies. I think she's gross (Kate) and I mostly agree with the OP (not sure about the hate America part).

Even though Jon did sign up for the show, I feel kind of bad for him. His wife seems like a terror. Reality TV seems to have made the overbearing parts of her personality just that much worse. I don't blame him for seeking attention elsewhere if he actually did that. And I do think it will be better for the kids if these two divorce vs. have to see their mom verbally beat up their dad all the time.

Caveat: of course my reactions are only what I know from seeing this in the media, and from the few times I've seen the show. Who knows what this family is really like in "real life." However like someone else said, for the kids this has been their real lives since birth, to be on TV - at least for the 6 younger kids. Poor things.

I really don't think they are that different from a lot of people really...

And when you think about, there are A WHOLE LOT WORSE family issues, situations, parents, etc. out there, the only difference really is that their problems are on a screen. In fact my parents have a very similar relationship as John and Kate do (they are so so close to divorce) and a lot more family issues (that I don't really want to go into, but they are at LEAST sizable to just having to get used to having a camera in my face at an age I probably wouldn't remember walking on the moon if I did) but if they seperate it will just be another divorced couple.

I mean really though, how many marriages in Hollywood&nb sp;last longer than theirs did anyway. I bet though they went into this whole hearty believing they might be able to prove to the world it was possible etc. So was it the best idea? Maybe not. Is it sad and disappointing, certainly, most separations are. They aren't perfect, Kate is just as crazy as every other mom with more than two or three kids (she looks like a saint in comparison to mine, if not twins) and John is just a guy who loves his kids, but has been strained by his wife into looking like a bad guy. But neither of them are bad people I do believe.

The show was innocuous enough until their marriage started to break up. Now everyone's up in arms? Tedious yes, disgusting, no.

I actually did find it somewhat disgusting well in advance of their marriage troubles that have recently been in the media. I've always pretty much thought Kate is an overbearing media whore. The way she's portrayed on the show, anyway. It's been that way for a long time, that's not recent disgust for me.

TLC and Kate are making the most of their marriage troubles, getting the word out as much as possible, because it's more publicity which = more money. "Any publicity is good publicity." That's pretty disgusting when there are kids involved.

I've never been on welfare, but I know some who have.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to get away from?  My duaghter is on it, and she has a a lot of medical  debt as well.  She is working, but every time she gets a raise or tries to make a litttle more to try to pay down some of her debt they reduce what she gets from welfare and she can't make any progress.

She had some serious back problems, and has insureance through her work for herself so that she can try and get surgery, but she also has a 2 year old with a heart problem.  The baby had full medical coverage until my daughter got a raise, and then they dropped her like a hot potato.  She has a heart procedure scheduled for next month, but I don't know how they're going to afford it.

Sorry to go off-topic--- but it IS hard for some to get off welfare.

this i cannot agree with.  regardless of how much of a cow kate may be (and i'm sure she is...), jon still took off on his own and galavanted (sp?) around with young girls.  he kept repeating "i'm only 32"...yes jon, you are only 32.  32 with 8 kids.  i think he's going to turn into deadbeat dad of the year.

Who are Jon and Kate?

Oh yeah. I am not advocating him cheating or saying it's okay. Just that I don't envy him having to put up with Kate. I fully agree - he signed up for marriage to this woman, he signed up for possibly having multiple kids (with their infertility treatments), he signed up for the show. He is a big boy and most likely just reaping what he sows at this point. Kate has seemed to get worse though in her "cow-ness" over the years. I guess he probably has too though...

I keep thinking, too, we don't know what's really gone on behind the scenes. The information we (viewers, public) are getting is filtered to make it the most scandalous possible, to make the most money for the network and for the family. So while we're all sitting here having this discussion, who knows what's really going on...

I feel bad for those kids. Regardless of the money their parents may be putting away for them, I don't see this as a positive for those 8 kids at this point.  I hope for the kids' sake they don't bring the show back.

I've see their pictures on the magazines and the grocery check out lately but I'd never heard of them before.  They don't seem attractive enough to me to be Hollywood types.

hm, how do i sum this up: reality show, 8 kids (twins and sextuplets), were married, now getting divorced.  wife is cow, husband is having midlife crisis or something (cheated on her with a 23 year old, and has been seen hammered on multiple occasions while she supposedly had all 8 kids alone).

amy - definitely.  it's impossible to know what they're actually like.  what i will say though, is that regardless of kate being a cow, she seems like the parent who is taking alot more responsibility for the kids.  again i say, seems.

I don't have much faith in reality TV being real.  I think they do what keeps people watching and keeps magazines selling just like any other TV drama.

Every time I hear something about another supposed "reality" show, I'm more convinced that it's just a clever way for studios to get away with not having to deal with SAG and AFTRA but still make a boatload of ad money.

Some of you don't have your facts straight. The kids have not been on TV since birth. There was a documentary done about what it's like to have sextuplets that was aired just after they turned 1 year old. Then there was another documentary done about a year later. Then TLC approached the family with the idea of the reality show. It was done due to viewer response to the documentaries.

I saw a few episodes of the show when it was first on and it wasn't exploitative and Kate wasn't overbearing at all.

While it's not great for the kids to have their family dissolve in this fashion and with this much media attention, I'm inclined to believe that the couple would have probably divorced anyway sooner or later.
